Bright colors and busy patterns may seem like an obvious option for your child’s walls, bedding, decorations, and everything in between, but they may not be the best choice in the long run. Decorating your kid’s bedroom in their favorite color or another distinct color scheme can help the space feel lively and unique, but it can also make it more challenging to revamp the way the room looks when their style or favorite colors change. With this in mind, it’s a good idea to choose a neutral color palette for the foundation of the space, such as cream, white, or gray. Neutral walls, bedding, and area rugs may seem bland on their own, but with a few colorful accessories, such as accent pillows and curtain panels, they can provide the perfect backdrop for a kid’s bedroom that exudes their personality and charm.
If you think that the type of mattress you use in your child’s bedroom doesn’t matter much because they’re little, think again. Even if it seems like they can’t tell the difference, sleeping on a comfortable mattress is equally as important for children as it is for adults. After all, they need a good night’s sleep to keep them healthy as they grow, learn, and become involved in extracurricular activities. For this reason, it’s worth choosing a quality mattress for your kiddo to enjoy night after night. Along with ensuring that they’re resting well when their head hits the pillow, buying a comfortable mattress sooner than later will save you time, money, and effort in the long run since you won’t have to replace their mattress every few years.
No matter if they’re three or thirteen, kids have a lot of stuff. From toys and books to clothing and school supplies, chances are your child has a variety of belongings that they use on a regular basis. Because of this, keeping your child’s bedroom neat and tidy can sometimes feel like a full-time job. The good news is that incorporating the right storage solutions into their bedroom can make a big difference in maintaining an organized (yet kid-friendly) bedroom space, even as they go from toddler to child to teen. Here are some storage ideas that can help you tackle the clutter in your kid’s room as they grow:
Nobody wants to replace the furniture in their child’s bedroom every other year. Fortunately, you don’t have to. The trick to getting the most out of the furnishings that you use in your kid’s bedroom is to choose the right pieces. Keep these tips in mind to make sure that the bed, dresser, side tables, and other pieces of furniture that you purchase for your child are able to serve them well for years to come:
When it comes to decorating your kid’s space with accessories and decorations, opt for items that can easily be added or swapped out as you like. This is a good idea for several reasons. First, it’s convenient. Decorating should be fun, not an overwhelming task, so why not make the process as simple as possible? This is especially helpful if your child’s style and preferences change with the wind. It can also make it more cost-effective. By choosing fewer items to make their bedroom their own, you can be more intentional about the ones you use and save money in the process. Examples of accessories that are easy to bring in and swap out include:
At the end of the day, your child’s room should be their own. Instead of trying to conform the way it’s designed to fit the overall aesthetic of the rest of your home, consider letting your kid take the lead in terms of how they’d like the space to look and feel, such as letting them choose the color of their bedspread or the wall hangings they’d like to use. This way they’re not only happy with the end result, but you have an opportunity to bond with your child throughout the decorating process rather than trying to tackle it on your own.
You don’t have to be an interior designer to create a kid’s bedroom that looks like it was put together by one. Especially if you’re dealing with an awkwardly shaped bedroom layout, symmetry can go a long way toward making your bedroom feel intentional, balanced, and calm. One easy way to create symmetry in your bedroom is by placing the bed in the center of the room and having matching nightstands on both sides of the bed. You can even place matching table lamps on both of the nightstands for an additional dose of symmetry. But it’s not just furniture and lighting that creates symmetry. You can also use carefully curated wall art for the same effect. You might, for example, buy a set of two large pieces of artwork and place them on either side of the bed.
Does your bedroom have a great view? Whether it’s a seaside, lakeside, or poolside view—or even if it just looks out into your beautiful backyard garden—if you’re lucky enough to have a nice view, you might as well take advantage of it. Start by positioning the bed so you can easily see out the window. That way you can start and end your day with a nice dose of nature. From there, you might utilize a window seat or a sitting area that faces out. Just make sure not to block the view with furniture or bulky window treatments. That way, you get as clear a view as possible.
One of our favorite bedroom layout ideas involves accommodating the architecture of the room. If your bedroom has a stone, wood, or brick wall, for example, you might arrange the room so that the bed is against that wall. That way, you’ll better showcase the accent wall. If you have a fireplace, on the other hand, you might want to place the bed directly across from the fireplace, so you’ll have a great view of the fiery glow. Whatever architectural accents you have in your room, be sure to consider them when deciding on your bedroom layout so you can make the most of your space.
Sick of straining your neck while watching TV from bed? If you enjoy watching television from the comfort of your room, you can maximize your viewing pleasure with some extra bedroom seating. Chairs or settees at the end of the bed work great as a cozy place to catch up on your favorite shows. And they double as a great place to chat with your spouse after a long day or to plop down with a great book. Not only are sitting areas a great way to fill up some extra space when decorating a large bedroom, but they can be incredibly functional, and stylish.
With more and more people working from home, finding space for a home office is a top priority. While living rooms serve multiple purposes and tend to get a lot of foot traffic, bedrooms tend to go unused most of the day. That’s why dropping a desk into your existing bedroom can be a great way to utilize extra space and double down on function. Not sure how to get started? Writing desks tend to work well in multifunctional spaces, as they don’t take up a lot of room while still providing the space you need to get things done. We’ve even got a great resource that features small home office ideas that make the most of shared space.
When it comes to bedroom layout ideas, this one is great for people with a little space to spare in their bedroom. Try creating a dressing area where you can get ready for the day. Not only is this a helpful option for people with limited bathroom space, but it’s also a more comfortable option for people who really take their time getting ready for the day. To get started, find a nice vanity and mirror that fits your look. If you need extra clothing storage, you might even place the vanity between matching chests or armoires for some stylish symmetry.
Especially if you’re decorating a large rectangular bedroom, creating distinct zones is a great way to take advantage of the extra space. You might, for example, have a seating area, a bed area, and a home office area, all within the same room. To create clear zones, you can always start with the floor coverings. Generally speaking, our eyes respond to changes in floor coverings, so having different rugs in the different areas will help the spaces look visually distinct. You can also use taller pieces of furniture, table lamps, large plants, or even partitions to establish borders between the different bedroom zones. That said, you’ll want to follow a strict color palette within the room to make sure that all of the areas work together toward a cohesive look.
Not all closets are big enough to accommodate your whole wardrobe, especially if two people are sharing the space. That’s why one of our favorite bedroom layout ideas involves squeezing in some extra clothing storage. While dressers and chests work great in any room, no matter the size, a wardrobe or armoire might be particularly helpful if you need additional hanging space. Because armoires tend to be large, you’ll want to consider putting it on the same wall as the door. That way, it won’t take away from the bed, which is typically the focal point of a bedroom.
Now that you have these great bedroom layout ideas, it’s time to start shopping. Visit Lifestyle Furniture store in Fresno, CA or browse our huge selection of bedroom furniture online, including beds, nightstands, dressers, vanities, benches, and more right here.

Otherwise known as general lighting, ambient lighting serves as the primary source of light for a room. In other words, ambient lighting is the standard light setting and is often attached to the main light switch. When lighting your living room, be sure that there’s enough ambient light to safely illuminate the whole room, but not so much that you’re constantly avoiding glares and shadows. While a wide range of light types can be used as ambient lighting, it often takes the form of ceiling-mounted lights, recessed fixtures, wall sconces, and/or floor lamps. Think of ambient light as the default light setting that is then altered and enhanced by the task lighting and accent lighting in the room.
When decorating a living room, it’s important to consider how the room will be used. Task lighting is an additional layer of lighting in the room that provides increased light for specific tasks. If, for example, you often read novels on your sofa, you may want to put a table lamp on a side table to help illuminate your book. While ambient lighting should be turned on whenever you enter a room, task lighting should only be used on an as-needed basis. Task lighting comes in many forms, including floor lamps, table lamps, buffet lamps, under cabinet lights, and pendant lights. While function is obviously important when choosing task lighting for your living room, you’ll want to do your best to try to match the style and scale of the space.
Otherwise known as highlighting, accent lighting is used to highlight architectural elements in your living room, including a fireplace, wall art, or other points of interest. Unlike ambient lighting, which focuses on lighting the whole room, accent lighting seeks to add style and personalization to the room by highlighting noteworthy items. You might, for example, use track lighting to downlight your gallery wall or to draw attention to your fireplace. Other types of accent lighting include recessed lighting, wall sconces, picture lighting, and cove lighting, all of which can give your living room lighting more depth and style.
As you can see, ambient lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting all play a pivotal role in lighting your living room like a designer. So, if you want your living room to reach its full potential, you need to layer all three types of lighting throughout the room. Remember, different lighting can serve multiple roles, but you want to make sure you understand how they’re working in the room. It’s also important to consider how all of your lighting is working together. Your accent lighting, for example, should be three times brighter than your ambient lighting for maximum effect.
You’ll also want to pay special attention to your choice of light bulbs, as they will determine whether you have warm or cold lighting. Warm light will typically have shades of red, orange, and yellow, while cool light will have a bluish green undertone. For that reason, cold lighting tends to work best for spaces where you need to clearly see what you’re doing, while warm light is best for areas where you’re trying to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Feel free to mix light temperatures as you see fit. You may, for example, prefer cool light in your living room task lighting while choosing warm light for your ambient lighting.
Natural light has plenty of benefits. It can improve your mood, make your living room look bigger, and improve the aesthetic of a space. Plus, it can reduce the amount of electricity you need, which is more sustainable and saves you money. That’s why taking advantage of natural light in your living room is so important. To get started, you’ll want to amplify the light from your windows by placing mirrors directly next to or across from your windows. This will help you reflect the natural light throughout the room. You can also paint your walls a light color and/or use paint with a higher gloss level to better reflect light.
When choosing lighting fixtures and lamps for your home, you’ll want to pay attention to scale. While this means you’ll want to consider the scale of the other furniture in the room, you’ll also want to consider the size of the room. A large, open room, for example, will likely use smaller scale fixtures than a small, confined space. You’ll also need to be conscious of the size of your lamps.

]]>For the impending seasons, an interior’s focus is being placed on earthy tones. This should come as no surprise though, for the last number of months and indeed, most of this year, we have seen a shift from pretty pastels to note-worthy neutrals. Almost every item of furniture you look to purchase for your home is upholstered in a cream, nude or taupe material, sofas especially. But it doesn’t stop here, even dinnerware sets in ivory tones are spotted in nearly every celebrity's Instagram post. As we lead into the cooler winter months, we can expect darker neutrals, think mocha, tan, hazelnut, and chocolate browns.
Luckily, brown has links to the outside which means that bringing the outdoors into your home has suddenly become a lot easier. Being in the company of browns and their variations can positively affect people because it can give someone a sense of trust, reliability and unity. This strong color is worth embracing fully for autumn and winter 2022 and can be seen on the walls next to our Helsinki sofa range.
While browns are sure to dominate the interior world over the next few months, so too is yellow. We think that yellow, its joyful nature and a lemon yellow was one to watch for 2022, however, moving into the colder months of the year means that the focus lies firmly with a darker mustard yellow.
In contrast to popular belief, yellow can be easily incorporated into a living room, dining room, and bedroom. The rule with brighter colors like this is to use them sparingly or they can come across as arrogant. You can notice above how the sofa stands out because it is surrounded by muted wall colors with only the yellow being picked up again by the smaller accessories. The Infusion framed canvas above the sofa and coincidently, the Lady canvas in the background all links back to the sofa with hints of yellow. Mustard yellow is one of very few colors that encourages and inspires those in its presence. Creativity is likely enhanced by this optimistic and warming color.
We cannot seem to get away from green in our interiors this year, but quite frankly, who really wants to? Not us. Any shade of green seems to exude elegance and it’s hard to choose between them all. From forest greens to olive greens, marine greens to sage, they are all stunning in their own way. From now until Christmas though, we are concentrating on dark greens. Like with the neutrals and yellow above, we are veering more towards the dark side once again.
Dark green like the color of the velvet featured on the Conley Accent Chair above is bang on trend for autumn and winter 2022. Green also comes with its own individual effects. When surrounded by dark green we tend to feel overcome by ambition. Who feels like enrolling in a master’s degree? We also feel relaxed and revitalized when it’s surrounding us. Still, it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Too much green can make us feel envious, greedy, and materialistic.
When Fashion & Interiors Become OneThere has always been a link between fashion trends and interior trends. Often, clothing seen on catwalks will have its colors reflected in home decor not long afterwards. For autumn and winter this year, fashion is embracing vibrancy. We can expect to see lilac, emerald green, cobalt blue, and burgundy clothing flaunting the display windows of high-street stores from now until the New Year. We’ve already seen how emerald green is expected to be included in the home and explored its many benefits, but we should also prepare ourselves for the other colors. Lilac uplifts and soothes so it should be used in areas where you want to feel most relaxed.
Think bedrooms, children’s rooms, and even the living room. Cobalt blue is an incredibly supportive color and will enhance, promote and increase a person’s productivity, so it could be most fitting in a home office. Last but not least, burgundy. Isn’t burgundy the most seductive color? Well, we think so. This sophisticated color is powerful and draws a great deal of attention, so why not paint your entire house in this color and create an impactful scene for a passer-by?
If you really want to impress for autumn and winter 2022, just follow our advice above and remember to embrace your dark side. Need new furniture for autumn and winter? Come to visit us at 21 E Shaw Ave., Fresno or browse our website here for shopping online with a lot of available deals.
]]>How Big Should A Sofa Be?
By paying careful attention to the proportions of the room and its layout, you will be able to determine what height, length and depth of sofa can fit into the available space.
Once you’ve decided on the configuration, mark the sofa's measurements out by placing newspaper on the floor in the space you intend to put it. This will help you visualize it and ensure you have adequate walking space around the couch, space for additional pieces such as a coffee table and drawers/doors that will have to be opened and closed.
Don’t forget to consider whether you will be able to easily maneuver your sofa through the front door, patio door, up two flights of stairs or whatever the limited access situation may be.
Which Sofa Is The Most Comfortable?
You should consider how your sofa will be used and by whom in order to determine which sofa style will be most comfortable and durable for you. Once you determine the user then the important factors to consider for overall comfort are the sofa's back, depth and height.
There are three main types of sofa back, these are cushion-back, pillow-back and fixed-back.
Cushion-Back Sofas
Cushion-back sofas refer to those featuring cushions that are completely unattached to the sofa, which allows them to be turned and rotated. These are often the more casual and comfortable option although, a loose-cushion back offers less support than a fixed-back.
Pillow-Back Sofas
Pillow-back designs often have between five and seven fluffy pillows rather than two or three larger cushions. The pillows are not shaped to fit around the arms of the sofa.
Fixed-Back Sofas
Fixed-back means the back frame of the sofa is itself sprung and upholstered, rather than the cushions. Fixed-back sofas are often a more formal style of sofa and are great for people who may need extra lumbar back support, or prefer sitting in a more upright position.
Low Or High?
When making a decision on the type of sofa back you want, you should also consider whether you would prefer a low-back or high-back sofa.
High-Back Sofas
High-back sofas are the more supportive option and will help support your neck as well as your back. In terms of appearance, they tend to work best in spacious rooms with higher ceilings so that the room doesn’t look cluttered.
Low-Back Sofas
Low-back sofas work well in small rooms as they give the illusion of more space and are more compact. They can make the ceilings seem higher and the sofa feel less imposing.
Are Depth & Height Important?
Depth
The depth refers to the distance from the front edge of the seat to the back and will influence how comfortable you feel. If you are shorter in height and prefer sitting upright then a shallower option is advised to prevent your feet from dangling, alternatively, if you like leaning back or tucking your legs up, a deeper seat may be a more comfortable option for you.
Height
Mobility is an important factor when deciding the height of your sofa. If you find it difficult to get up and down from your sofa, consider a design that's slightly higher off the ground and design with armrests additional support.
What Type Of Sofa Is Best?
When choosing a fabric sofa, if you have children, pets or just a busy family home in general then a hard-wearing and durable fabric is the better option. Reversible/removable cushion covers help with ease of maintenance but leather is most advisable as it can be wiped clean and is not as prone to stains as fabric. The brighter the color you choose the harder it is to keep clean but remember it is important to choose a color sofa that you can live with for a considerable amount of time.

]]>In this blog, Lifestyle Furniture will take a look at a corner sofa’s benefits and what you need to be aware of before purchasing. Moreover, you can click to the images for shopping online!
It’s important to get the most obvious benefit out of the way first. Corner sofas provide plenty of space for the whole family to sit on. If there should ever be an occasion where there are more people than usual in your home, a corner sofa can accommodate them too. Someone who owns this style of couch will never have to worry about large parties or gatherings, simply because of the large seating space this item of furniture has to offer. Still, all sofas vary in design and size and this includes corner couches.
In most cases, you can seat 6 people comfortably, or on a quiet night, you can fit three people, with each person having plenty of personal space. Larger alternatives have been known to accommodate a whopping 10 people. If you think all those extra seats are excessive, think again. If you are someone who likes to put your feet up in the evenings or occasionally nap in a living room, this couch would still be a smart investment for you.
This might sound silly, especially because corner sofas are one of the largest items of furniture you can buy, but most couches can actually save on floor space. While L-shape and U-shape sofas might appear bulky at first, they are actually an incredibly efficient use of your space. Think about it, it’s incredibly rare to see a regular 2-seater sofa or even a 3-seater sofa on its own in a sitting room. Usually, an armchair, a footstool, or even a second sofa will accompany them. In these instances, a greater deal of floor space is taken. A corner sofa will fit neatly into most room layouts without leaving any negative space or annoying gaps around the room.
The angled nature of an L-shape couch provides more space for you and your guests to face each other. The same can be said for a U-shape couch. When a number of people sit together on a regular sofa, it tends to feel cramped. Not only this, but everyone is facing out and in the same direction which makes it incredibly difficult to converse with one another and make eye contact while doing so.
Even though corner sofas consume a great deal of floor space they can be easily forgiven for this because of their beautifully stylish design. These types of sofas demand attention regardless of where they are placed in the home. They are their own statement piece and can come in a variety of styles, sizes, and colors. A corner chaise is perfect for those who like to kick their feet up at the end of a busy day because it features an extended chair piece long enough to support a person’s legs. However, a regular corner sofa works just as well if it has a reclining feature or is paired with a separate footstool.
Some open-plan spaces are so large they need to be sectioned off to create a distinction between multiple areas. You might, for example, have one large space, but within that space, you will need to include a kitchen, living room, and dining room. Corner couches are able to section off a large space naturally. Ultimately, this can save you a huge amount of money because you won’t need to bring in builders to build sectional walls.
Tip: If you want a specific arrangement for your corner sofa and room layout, then consider modular sofas. These couches are essentially separate sofa parts pieced together to create one sofa unit. These interchangeable sections can be arranged to suit your specific wants and needs. Basically, you can create your own L-shape sofa or U-shape couch.
We get it, choosing a sofa is hard, and it’s even harder to choose a corner alternative because sometimes there are spacing limitations. If a corner sofa is not something you can incorporate into your home just yet, then a regular sofa should definitely be considered. ]]>Panel Bed
When you envision a standard bed frame, you’re likely imagining a panel bed. They feature a sturdy base, two side panels, and a decorative footboard and headboard. While panel beds can look similar to platform beds, panel beds feature side rails, which are designed to hold the box spring and mattress in place. Platform beds, on the other hand, don’t require a box spring at all. While panel beds can come in any style, their classic look means that you’ll often find them with casual or traditional features.
Do Panel Beds Need Box Springs?
Yes. All panel beds require a mattress foundation like a box spring. If you decide not to use a box spring with a panel bed, your mattress will likely incur damage due to the lack of support, including premature sagging.
Platform Bed
A platform bed is a low-profile bed frame with a slatted wood, solid wood, or metal surface. They generally have a decorative headboard and footboard for added visual interest. Because you can place your mattress directly on the frame, they tend to be lower to the ground, making them a challenging option for older people who have trouble getting in and out of bed. In fact, platform beds are typically around 18” off the ground. Because of their size and simplicity, they tend to be minimalist in design and work especially well in modern bedroom design. Some platform beds also come with built-in storage features to help keep your bedroom clear of clutter.
Do You Need to Use a Box Spring with a Platform Bed?
No. In fact, platform beds are specifically designed with rows of closely positioned slats or a solid surface that serves the same purpose as a box spring. That said, some mattress types work better on platform beds than others. Memory foam mattresses, for example, work extremely well on platform beds. Some innerspring mattresses, on the other hand, might have a shorter lifespan if they’re used exclusively with a platform bed frame.
Sleigh Bed
A sleigh bed is a large bed that’s modeled after the shape of a sleigh, with an outward curve at both the headboard and the footboard. Because of their size and elegance, sleigh beds tend to be more traditional in style and often feature rich wood tones, ornate detailing, and curved edges. Their distinct design also makes them a great focal point for master bedrooms.
Do You Need to Use a Box Spring on a Sleigh Bed?
It depends. While some sleigh beds come with a slotted or solid foundation, some sleigh beds may not have the support needed for your mattress. Remember, a box spring is just a supportive foundation for your mattress, so if the bed comes with its own sturdy platform, a box spring is likely not needed.
Adjustable Bed
An adjustable bed is a mattress foundation that can be easily adjusted to different heights and elevations to accommodate different sleep preferences. Adjusting the bed to different settings can help relieve joint pain, back pain, and symptoms of acid reflux. It can even help prevent snoring. Because you can adjust the height and elevate your back, adjustable beds can help prevent falls for people with mobility issues. The best part? Adjustable base beds are compatible with select headboards and bed frames, so just because you choose an adjustable base bed, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.
Do Adjustable Beds Need Box Springs?
No. In fact, adjustable base beds are distinctly incompatible with box springs. Instead, adjustable beds feature a sturdy base that offers all of the support most mattresses need.
Daybed
Daybeds double as both a bed and a sofa. Popular in kids’ bedrooms and guest rooms, daybeds tend to have a headboard that extends along the side of the day bed, rather than just at the top of the bed. While they are traditionally twin sized, daybeds can be ordered to fit other mattress sizes. Some daybeds even come with additional storage space in the form of built-in shelving or drawers, which are perfect for storing pillows, blankets, and other bedding.
Do You Need a Box Spring with a Day Bed?
Generally speaking, daybeds don’t need a box spring. That’s because the bed itself typically features a platform or slats that serves as adequate support for most mattresses. In fact, many daybeds feature storage space or trundles in the space that would usually house a box spring.
Bunk Bed
Bunk beds are a type of bed in which one bed frame is stacked on top of the other. They can be a great space saver for kids’ rooms, as it allows you to fit two beds in the same amount of space that one bed would occupy. While traditional bunk beds often accommodate twin size or extra-long twin size mattresses, there has been an increase in full and queen size bunk beds.
Do Bunk Beds Need Box Springs?
Because most bunk beds feature a Bunkie board or support slabs, they do not typically require box springs. In fact, using a box spring could even be dangerous. When a box spring is used on the top bunk, for example, it may raise the mattress to the point that the child is no longer adequately protected by the side rails. On the bottom bunk, it could make the bed more uncomfortable as it gives the child less space between their mattress and the top bunk.
Loft Bed
Like bunk beds, loft beds are designed to save space in your bedroom. While bunk beds make it so you can fit two beds in the amount of space typically taken up by one, a loft bed is a single bed that is raised enough to comfortably allow your child to use the floor area below. Some lofts have built-in storage or desk space, while others simply offer some additional space below the bed for you to use how you please.
Do Loft Beds Need Box Springs?
Loft beds do not typically need box springs. Like with bunk beds, using a box spring could actually be dangerous, as it renders the side rails ineffective, which opens up the opportunity for your child to roll over the side. Many loft beds utilize Bunkie boards or slabs to provide the support your mattress needs.
Trundle Bed
A trundle bed is a low bed on wheels that can be easily stored under the bed frame of the main bed. When the trundle bed is not in use, it is completely hidden. The term trundle bed can refer to any type of bed frame that features a stored rolling mattress. Though panel beds are the most common bed frame type to incorporate a trundle bed, day beds do sometimes feature this capability. Like bunk beds, trundle beds are often used in kids’ rooms and guest rooms as a way to save space and sleep extra guests.
Do You Need a Box Spring on a Trundle Bed?
No. In fact, with trundle beds, there isn’t enough space to use a box spring with the main bed or the trundle bed. Instead, trundle beds come with a solid platform or closely positioned slats to provide all of the support your mattress needs.
Upholstered Bed
The term “upholstered bed” refers to any bed frame that incorporates upholstered materials such as velvet, linen, or chenille. The upholstery often covers the headboard and footboard, with additional padding at the headboard for added comfort. Upholstered beds are one of the hottest interior design trends of 2022. In fact, upholstered beds can be any bed type or style. You can, for example, have an upholstered sleigh bed, an upholstered platform bed, etc.
Do Upholstered Beds Need Box Springs?
It depends. Upholstered beds can come in all different styles and types. An upholstered platform bed, for example, will not need a box spring, while most upholstered panel beds would require a box spring. If you’re not sure if your upholstered bed needs a box spring, you should pay attention to the foundation. When the upholstered bed has close slats or a solid platform, it will likely provide all the support your mattress needs. If the upholstered bed features side rails, you’ll likely need to use a box spring for added mattress support.

]]>Select a Statement Piece
A statement piece is any piece of furniture or décor that becomes the focus of your design. Also known as conversation starters, a statement piece is typically the first thing people notice when they walk into your space. If you’re looking for ways to refresh your home without having to replace all of your furniture, finding the right statement piece can completely transform your design, even if you only add that one new item. When choosing a statement piece, you might want to consider something with bright colors, bold patterns, or unique shapes in order to provide the visual interest needed to draw the focus of the room.
Incorporate New Accent Furniture
Incorporating accent furniture is one of our favorite home décor ideas to help you change up your look. Accent furniture refers to any furniture that intentionally stands out, adding character and personality to the room while also complementing the room’s general décor. While many furniture items are predominantly functional in nature, accent furniture serves a design purpose first and a functional purpose second. That’s why accent furniture can be so helpful when you’re looking for ways to refresh your home. To get started, choose an accent piece (chair, table, lighting, etc.) that both stands out and complements the room’s design. Like statement pieces, accent furniture tends to have bold patterns, bright colors, and/or unique shaping, so find what works for your space and see how completely it changes the overall look and feel of the room.
Replace Your Rug
You probably already know that area rugs serve multiple functional purposes like anchoring furniture, reducing noise, and providing extra comfort, but changing out your rugs can really make a big difference in the aesthetics of any room in the house. So, if you’re looking for simple ways to refresh your home décor, replacing your rug is a fast, easy, and inexpensive way to change up your design in a meaningful way. But it’s not just about the look of the rug.
In fact, while getting a new rug is sure to add some visual interest to the room, simply moving the rug’s location can make a big impact on the look and feel of the room. If you’re hoping to change out the rugs in your living room, dining room, home office, or bedroom, start by considering the color palette of the room and then start looking for designs that speak to your personality and style.
Swap Out Your Throw Pillows
Looking for simple ways to refresh your home with minimal effort? Start with your throw pillows. While we recommend swapping out your throw pillows for every season, simply updating them once a year is a great way to change up the vibe of your bedroom, living room, or home office. To get started, consider how long you’ll want to leave the new throw pillows out. If you’re hoping to swap them out every few months, for example, you might want to pay attention to seasonal colors and patterns. If you’re changing them out for the whole year, on the other hand, you’ll want to focus more on your room’s style and color palette.
Upgrade Your Bedding
When it comes to creative home décor ideas, upgrading your bedding is another quick and relatively inexpensive way to refresh your home. Not only is bedding less expensive than new furniture, but it also takes up a significant amount of real estate in your bedroom. That’s why it can make such a huge difference in the look and feel of the room. Like throw pillows, many people upgrade their bedding seasonally, which keeps their bedroom looking fresh throughout the year. Plus, you likely have different preferences in the warmer months than you do in the colder months. Flannel sheets and heavy quilts, for example, might make sense in the winter, while breathable cotton sheets and a thin duvet may be more appropriate for the summer months.
Add Some Accessories
You don’t necessarily need to purchase any big-ticket items to make your home feel fresh and new. In fact, adding a few thoughtful and stylish home accessories here and there can make a noticable difference. Not sure where to start? Try adding some green to your home décor with real or fake plants and flowers. You can even choose chic pots and vases for an added splash of style.
Need to brighten up your home? Try strategically placing decorative mirrors across from or next to windows or other light sources throughout your home. Not only will this make your room feel brighter and more cheerful, but it can also make the room feel larger. You should also be on the lookout for smaller pieces of furniture that might enhance your space like a cocktail ottoman, a bar cart, or a storage bench. In addition to adding to the style of your room, these home accessories serve practical functions that will come in handy in your day-to-day life.
Refresh Your Lighting
From floor lamps and table lamps to wall sconces and chandeliers, updating the lighting in your home is one of our favorite ways to refresh your home. Changing out the lighting fixture over your dining room table, for example, is a great way to change up the vibe of the room without having to replace expensive items like dining tables and hutches. Similarly, you can upgrade the table lamps in your living room, bedroom, or home office for a fresh and updated look without having to replace sofas, beds, or desks.
In fact, Lifestyle Furniture has a huge selection of table and floor lamps in a wide range of styles so you can play with fun looks for your home. Whether you buy new lighting or keep what you already have, changing out the types of bulbs you use can make a big difference in the aesthetic of your home. You might, for example, try out some warm bulbs in your living room to change the way the light illuminates the room, which can change the feel of the room quite significantly.
Change Up Your Wall Art
When it comes to creative home décor ideas, we’re often thinking about the horizontal parts of our home where we can place furniture and other décor. But our walls offer plenty of vertical space that can catch the eye and completely change the aesthetics of a room.
To get started, try filling empty wall space with wall art that matches your interior design style, personality, and taste. For people who like multiple room refreshes throughout the year, it might make sense to swap out your wall art with seasonally appropriate images and/or colors. If you’re just looking for simple ways to refresh your home once a year, you might try buying a large piece of artwork or a few pieces that work well together that can serve as a statement piece. Simply hang it in a prominent place behind the sofa, dining table, or bed and let it make its mark on the room.
Create an Accent Wall
While simply changing up some of your wall art can go a long way toward making your home feel fresh, creating an accent wall can take this innovation to a whole new level. To get started, you’ll need to decide which wall to make your accent wall. Consider the focal point of the room, the room’s function, the furniture arrangement, and the architectural details.
Once you choose the right wall for your accent wall, you’ll need to decide what type of accent wall you want in your home. You can go for a painted accent wall, a bold pattern, a brick, shiplap, or wood panel accent wall, a gallery wall, or a mural. Because accent walls can function in so many different ways and because they can work in every room in the house, they’re one of our favorite creative home décor ideas.
Redecorate Your Shelves
Whether you have bookshelves, an etagere, a hutch, a fireplace mantel, or hanging shelves, switching out your shelf décor can go a long way toward refreshing the look of the room. One easy way to get started is by choosing a theme to help narrow down your design. You can work a theme around one great decoration you love, or you can change up your shelves seasonally. But having a theme, even if it’s a loose one, will help guide you in your décor decisions.
Prefer something a bit more abstract? Let color guide you. Choosing a limited color palette can help you choose items that complement each other and that make a distinct visual difference in the room. However you decide to redecorate your shelves, make sure it showcases your unique personality and style. This guide to decorating a hutch might help inspire some ideas.
Freshen Up Your Dining Room Table Décor
Another inexpensive way to freshen up your home is to take advantage of dining table décor. Table runners, for example, can be switched out frequently to add visual interest without hiding the natural beauty of your dining table. Swapping out a centerpiece can also be a great way to refresh your dining room, and because there are so many options, you can get as creative as you want to. Trays, on the other hand, can easily hold a centerpiece while allowing for stylish groupings that can showcase your unique style.
Try going seasonal with summer flowers and fruits or opt for something functional like honey, hot sauce, and other condiments. Whatever you choose, dining table décor can help transform your table, so you don’t have to buy a new one.

]]>Luckily, because it is already such a small space, it doesn’t take much to spruce up a narrow hallway. All you need is a console table, some wall art, a mirror for those last checks before rushing out the door, and a few other key pieces. Lifestyle Furniture also has some clever tips that will help turn your awkward hallway into something stylish and sophisticated.
Any item of furniture you wish to use in the hallway should be both narrow and have multiple uses. There are many reasons for this, one being to avoid blocking the flow when walking into the home. The second is because, as we have mentioned, furniture space is limited in the entryway. Sometimes, only one piece of furniture is all you can really afford to have in the hall, which is why it needs to work harder and more efficiently than other items of furniture in alternative rooms. A multi-functional yet slender console table should solve the majority of your hallway’s problems. It provides a space for table lamps and displays of decorative pieces such as vases and artwork. A hall table also has plenty of tabletop space for catchall, key dishes, and mail organizers. Lower shelves, if applicable, can be used for shoes or clothing accessories such as hats, gloves, and scarves.
If a console table really isn’t your thing, you should consider a hall stand with a coat hanger addition. Hooks will hold your coats and jackets in a neat order while bottom drawers can facilitate those smaller accessories or shoes. Usually narrower than they are wider, you won’t consume too much space with this item either.
Long and narrow hallways rarely feel homely, but there are tricks you can use to zone the space and make it feel far cozier. A rug or runner rug in a hall can visually draw together the furniture in an area and add focus and comfort to the room. Rugs can also lengthen the space making it look larger as a whole and disguising the awkward, slender layout of the entryway. It’s best to choose a rug with a design in this situation because it will capture a visitor’s attention and draw the eye upward to the top of the space and away from the surrounding walls. Think geometric prints, distressed textures, or even a colorful blog rug.
Yes, you read that right, rather than making a room appear smaller, a large piece of wall art can actually help to make a narrow space look bigger. Multiple pieces of artwork tend to make a room feel closed in, especially when that room or area is already short on space. Simply, pick one large canvas or print and hang this above the console table to make the room feel wider. Avoid hanging art too high on a long wall as it will just highlight the imbalance of the room’s proportions. Instead, choose art that can sit wide but low over the console, to bring the eye-level down and help make the room seem wider. Opt for a serene seascape, funky portrait, artistic animal, or an eye-catching abstract.
Light will help to brighten a dark and narrow hallway instantly. So, first and foremost, you should allow natural light to stream indoors by avoiding dark window panes on the front door. Simple, plain and untextured glass will solve a lot of your lighting problems in an ill-lit entryway. If natural light is non-existent in your corridor, instead look to table lamps and floor lamps for a dose of illumination. Dark corners are of particular concern in a passageway because they can make a hallway appear extremely cramped. To avoid this, position a floor lamp in a bare corner to visually expand the space. A table lamp can be placed on the hallway table or console table. Don’t forget about ceiling lights too, they can illuminate the entire room without taking up any floor or wall space.
Having a mirror in a narrow hallway is extremely beneficial. They can make a foyer appear more spacious by reflecting light and broadening the feel of the room. Placed opposite a window or clear paneled front door, they can reflect natural light during the day. At night, they can prove incredibly useful by bouncing artificial light around the space to make it appear larger. We suggest hanging a wall mirror above the hall table if wall art really isn’t your thing. If you wish to keep your wall art above the console table, incorporate a full-length mirror. This could be just what you need if you are someone who always seems to be rushing from one place to another. Simply, take a moment just before you reach the front door for one last appearance check before you depart.
Last, but not least, always remember that when kitting out an entryway it’s always best to keep furniture and home accessories to a minimum. Less is most definitely more and creating the illusion of more space is easily done if your room is organized and not filled with clutter. Prioritizing this step above everything else will keep your room looking and feeling bigger, but most importantly, more welcoming.
And there you have it, 6 simple ways to decorate a narrow hallway. Remember, the hallway is the first place a visitor or guest will see and by following these easy steps you can ensure that yours will make a great first impression. Come to visit our Lifestyle Furniture store in Fresno, CA to see a wide range of furniture and choose the best items for your home.
]]>Function
It is incredible how often you find yourself sitting on your sofa and how many functions this piece of furniture must fulfill. Think carefully about how you will use your sofa and choose a design which will fit seamlessly into your day to day life. Your sofa should solve your problems not create them!
Relaxing
Your new sofa will be the place where you relax in front of the television or where you sit down to read. If you are likely to spend a great deal of time relaxing, then comfort is key and should be a primary consideration when selecting your furniture. You should consider investing in a recliner to maximize your comfort, especially if you enjoy a snooze and if you like to put your feet up, look for a sofa with a matching footstool.
Entertaining
Do you enjoy entertaining? When family and friends visit your home, they will need somewhere to sit! Choose a seating arrangement which will enable you to accommodate your regular visitors.
Sleeping
When family or friends are staying overnight, you may not have the convenience of a spare bedroom to call on. A sofa bed is a versatile choice and will enable you to offer your guests a comfortable place to sleep.
Size Matters
Before you allow yourself to fall in love with a particular sofa, there are a few practicalities to consider. Your chic sofa won’t be any good to you if you can’t fit it through your front door! It is vital that your furniture can be maneuvered into position and that it can be accommodated in your room.
Your Home
Before buying a sofa, purchase a tape measure! Check the dimensions of your doorways and compare these to the quoted dimensions of the furniture you are interested in. Think about any narrow corridors in your home and whether it will be necessary to traverse these with the sofa. Are there any tight corners to negotiate with the furniture and would it be easier to bring it in through the back door or patio doors? If access is an issue, look for smaller styles, sofas with removable arms or modular furniture which can be broken down into smaller elements.
Your room
So, your sofa will fit through your front door, but will it suit the size of your room? Your furniture should complement your interior and not overly dominate the space but it can be hard to visualize exactly what it will look like. This is where your tape measure will come in handy again! To establish whether your sofa will fit comfortably into your room, decide where you would like to position it and then use your tape measure to mark out an area on the floor which is the same size as the sofa. Simply place small objects on the floor to represent the four corners of the sofa. Alternatively, use paper or cardboard to create a template and place this on the floor. When measuring your space, remember that leather sofas should be positioned at least 30cms away from a radiator to prevent the heat drying out the leather. You should also ensure that there is sufficient room for recliners and sofa beds to be fully extended.
Configuration
It’s time to ask yourself a few more questions regarding the practicality of your furniture. How many people do you need to provide seating for? How many sofas and chairs would you ideally like to feature in your room? What is the most beneficial way to arrange your seating to enable you to make the best use of the available space?
Family, Friends, Pets
You should first think about how many people there are in your family as, at a minimum, you will require seating for everyone who lives in the house. Don’t forget your pets if they enjoy curling up with you and consider whether or not your family is likely to grow in the near future. Are there any regular visitors that you will need to accommodate?
Sofa, Armchair, Corner unit
When you know how many people you need to seat, you can then decide which size of sofa you require and whether you must invest in more than one. We offer two, three and four-seater sofas together with armchairs and modular corner sofas in a variety of sizes. Your final choice will probably be dictated by the size and shape of your room. It is worth remembering that whilst corner units can look large, they are often a good option for smaller rooms as they make excellent use of the space.
Style and Shape
The practical qualities of your sofa are important but style matters too. The right furniture will enhance your interior and personalize your space whilst creating a valuable focal point. In addition, the shape of your furniture could have practical implications and will certainly influence your use of space. Sofas are available in a wide variety of shapes and styles and so the sheer number of options may seem overwhelming. It might help if you consider each aspect of sofa design, in turn, to establish exactly what you need. You will find a sofa in our collection which ticks every box!
Sofa Backs
This type of sofa refers to those featuring cushions that are completely unattached to the sofa, which allows them to be turned and rotated. These are often the more casual and comfortable option although a loose-cushion back offers less support than a fixed back.
These cushions will be loose on some styles enabling you to turn them to ensure even wear. However, the cushions of some sofas are fixed to prevent slippage.
This type of sofa boasts a back which is sprung and upholstered rather than having separate cushions. Fixed-back sofas are often a more formal style of sofa and are great for people who may need extra lumbar back support, or prefer sitting in a more upright position.
Here the frame of the sofa is hidden by a pleasing arrangement of loose cushions. The number of cushions varies and the look is a little less formal than that of a cushion back or fixed back. The scatter cushions could all be fashioned from the same fabric or may feature a variety of coordinating fabrics.
Sofa Height
When you are visualizing how your sofa will look, don’t forget to consider how the furniture’s height will impact your space. High backs are most appropriate for large rooms and rooms with high ceilings as they will help to create a sense of proportion. On the other hand, a low back will prevent your sofa from overly dominating a smaller room. However, low backs can also be fabulous features for open plan spaces as they create the illusion of greater width.
Sofa Seats
Once you have decided which style of back best suits your needs, you are able to turn your attention to your choice of seat. There are two basic styles to think about:
Fixed Seats
Here the seat of the sofa is sprung and upholstered. Just as with a fixed back, this look delivers clean lines, a tailored appearance and a formal feel. There are no cushions to turn or plump but wear can occur at the points where people regularly sit. This should not prove to be a problem if you select fabric which is durable and does not stretch.
Cushioned Seats
Cushions are a more conventional choice and are usually reversible to even out wear. They may be filled with a variety of materials and the softer the cushion the more maintenance it will generally require.
Sofa Arms
A sofa’s arms are often its defining feature. Large arms create visual impact but will mean that the sofa offers less seating room relative to its overall size. If space is at a premium and you need to seat several people, compact arms would be a sensible choice. You should also think about whether you intend to lie down and lean your head against those arms! If you like to lounge lying down then soft, comfy arms could make all the difference.
Sofa Legs
Legs are usually made of wood and you will see a variety of styles and colors. Your furniture may be delivered without the legs attached to prevent damage and to make it easier to maneuver through doors. But some sofas have fixed legs which cannot be removed and this could impact whether or not the design can be incorporated into your home.
Here are the styles of legs which you will encounter:
With Glides there are no visible feet. Glides are designed to make the sofa easier to maneuver. They are incorporated into the design and are often concealed by a valence.
Bun feet are round in shape and shallow. They offer a simple and discreet look for both traditional and contemporary furniture.
Turned wooden legs create visual impact and are an attractive feature of classical designs.
Wooden and curved, saber legs provide a simple yet elegant finishing touch to a sofa. The legs flare outwards for visual appeal and stability.
You may see sofas which have been designed to appear as if they are sitting on a platform or plinth. This is a striking, simple and modern look.
Finishing Touches
Hopefully, you are now able to choose a wonderful sofa for your home! But even the perfect sofa can be enhanced with a few finishing touches and flourishes to make it truly yours. Cushions and throws will enable you to include your favorite accent colors and will enhance the texture of your interior. These attractive accessories will also help to tie your decorative scheme together, making it easier for you to incorporate your furniture seamlessly into your room.

]]>When choosing a TV stand or unit for your home there are three important things to consider. First, is the size of your TV and the room you wish to place it in, second is your storage requirements, and third is the theme and décor of your space. In this blog, Lifestyle Furniture will be focusing on all of the above to help you pick the right support for your TV in its hour of need. So, if you can’t “stand” your current TV cabinet or are buying one for the first time then keep reading for some essential tips.
Sizing
The size of the TV you possess will play a huge role in deciding which floor-standing TV stand you can buy. If your telly is too big for the accompanying TV unit then the TV itself will not be fully supported and can easily be knocked over or fall by itself. Similarly, if a TV cabinet is too big for a living room or bedroom, it can make the room feel smaller and more cramped, which is why we always recommend examining all measurements before purchasing.
Add a touch of warmth and create beautiful ambiance for your TV viewing pleasure with this wide fireplace insert. Available as an addition on select TV stands and entertainment centers, this insert can easily replace a lower shelf in your entertainment center. With no hassle, maintenance or cleanup, delight in all the unique features of this fireplace via remote control. With the touch of a button, adjust flame color setting, temperature or set the 12-hour timer for long-lasting enjoyment. The realistic flame effect includes color change option and faux glass crystals and natural rock inserts.
Distance from the sofa
Similar to size, the distance from the TV unit to the sofa is very important and must be taken into account. A telly that is too far away from a sofa or armchair can encourage squinting if you are short-sighted. While a TV that is too close can result in eye strain and fatigue.
Mandalay 3 Dwr 95'' Console: Solid wood construction. Two tone hand painted finish. Brass plated custom hardware. Full extension drawer glides. Wire management access. Cast metal door fronts. Lacquer finish.
Correct viewing height
Have you ever sat at a computer for a long time only to come away with neck strain because it was positioned either too high or low? Who hasn’t, right? Well, the same rule applies to TVs. Generally speaking, a floor-standing TV unit will sit lower than your couch or armchair but not enough to cause strain over a long period of time. However, a wall-mounted cabinet if placed too high on the wall will make for uncomfortable viewing and will cause tension in your neck and head over time. To avoid this, it’s worth taking note of the viewing height that your TV will ultimately sit at before making your final decision on which TV stand to purchase.
Lancaster Entertainment Wall: Refined design and casual, rustic appeal marry functionality to a ‘T’ in Lancaster. Crafted of Pine solids with handsome beadboard like panels in an updated Dovetail Grey finish and accented by Weathered Bronze pulls, the fully equipped Lancaster is the ideal media solution.
The shape of a room
The shape of a room will help you decide which TV cabinet will best fit into your space. If you’re lucky enough to have a large living space or bedroom, then practically any shape and size will fit and look good so there is no real need to worry. However, if you have an odd-shaped or even narrow living room it can be a little trickier. For this, we suggest incorporating a corner TV unit into the room. The rear of a corner unit is designed to push much further back into the corner of the room than a stand with a straight edge.
Aurora Hills Accent Cabinet: Our solid wood construction with a rustic brushed top, intricate wood carvings and designs, with glass window panes make this a chic country or rustic statement piece in your homes.
Style and materials
Style is personal. You may want to match your pre-existing furniture such as a coffee table, nest of tables, lamp table or bookcase to your new TV entertainment unit or opt for something completely different. The choice is yours, but don’t forget to consider each material carefully. For example, wood is more durable but can be costly while glass is more stylish but tends to show every fingerprint which may not be ideal for little ones with sticky fingers.
Storage
Last but not least, storage. Most TV units will feature added storage that can house your gaming consoles, satellite boxes and even remote controls. You can either opt for closed cabinets to help hide these items or decide on open shelving for a brighter and more open alternative. If you choose open shelving, be sure to under-fill rather than over-fill these shelves, as over-filling can make an entire room feel cluttered.
Finding the perfect TV stand for your home has never been easier thanks to this easy-to-follow guide. By following these steps you can be sure that you will choose the right TV unit for your home.

]]>Occasional furniture is so-called because such pieces were originally those used only as the occasion demanded. Small tables, spare chairs and footstools were included in rooms but only used occasionally.
Over time, our priorities in furnishing our homes have changed. Aesthetics are now as important as functionality and we have found ever more creative ways to utilize the various pieces at our disposal. What were once optional luxuries have become essential inclusions or finishing touches offering impressive visual impact.
It took mankind almost 200,000 years to begin using furniture at all. Early humans were far too busy hunting and gathering to worry about sofas and armchairs. Early furniture was nothing more than purely functional benches and beds. As furniture began to evolve, the finer things in life were reserved only for the wealthy.
The first examples of decorative furnishings were those created for the tombs of Egyptian Pharaohs. Wealthy Romans liked to relax on sofas and ancient Greek scholars benefitted from ornate chairs. By the 16th century, the homes of European nobles featured beautiful furnishings, crafted from the finest materials. It wasn’t until the 20th century that ordinary working people could afford to invest in comfortable pieces for their homes.
As furniture moved beyond the purely functional, style became an increasingly important consideration. In the 1950s, visionary designers began to take advantage of new man-made materials to produce striking new looks of stunning simplicity, such as the iconic Eames chair. These pieces inspired a new era of affordable yet stylish furniture.
Householders were gradually becoming more house proud. Essential pieces were increasingly chosen for their style as well as their practical features. As more women began entering the workplace, families could afford to invest in additional pieces for their homes. Living rooms began to feature poufs and lamp tables. Bedrooms were graced by bedside tables and hallways by console tables.
Interior designers found new and interesting ways to utilize occasional pieces. Their work was showcased in glossy magazines and later online, inspiring us all to create stunning spaces for our homes.
It’s all too easy to fall in love with a special piece and then find yourself struggling to accommodate it in your home. It’s best to consider each room in turn and to invest in the absolute essentials first. Once you have positioned your sofas, armchairs, dining table, bed and storage solutions, you can decide what you need to complete your rooms and how much space you have left to work with.
Address the practicalities of your interior first. Do you have anywhere to position a lamp for reading? Where will you rest your drinks? Are you able to tidy away all of your bits and pieces? Do you require an extra chair or two for seating guests? Think about how you use your room and how you would ideally like to use it.
When you have attended to the functionality of your spaces, you can turn your attention to the aesthetics of your interior. Do your rooms feel balanced or are there awkward empty areas? Does your home look bland because it lacks accent color, interesting details or contrasting textures?
You might need to live in your home for a while and use your rooms regularly before it becomes clear what you are missing. You can then choose stylish and memorable occasional pieces that make all the difference.
When you think about occasional furniture, it is probably tables that first spring to mind. A coffee table can balance your living space and will provide somewhere to serve your refreshments. But you can use coffee tables more imaginatively. Why not display your reading matter, a plant or an eye-catching sculpture?
Lamp tables are versatile additions to any space. Of course, they can be used to display a lamp for decorative interest or task lighting. But they could also be stylish alternatives to bedside lockers or utilized to showcase a beautiful vase or plant.
Slender and elegant, console tables are traditionally positioned in hallways as they lend themselves to narrow spaces. But these versatile pieces could be striking features of any room in the house. They’re the perfect solutions when you need display space and you are struggling to accommodate an extra piece in your home.
Nests of tables offer the ultimate versatility. A nest of two or three pieces gives you lamps tables, side tables and more but the tables can be nested when you need to save space in the room.
Once you have decided which tables you need, explore different looks and imagine how they could enhance your décor. Would the warmth and texture of wood best suit your interior, or would contemporary pieces, fashioned from metal and glass better complement your home?
Glass is an excellent choice for smaller rooms as your line of sight isn’t disrupted by the transparent surface, ensuring that an additional piece of furniture does not leave your room looking cluttered. Occasional pieces that match your existing furniture create a unified feel but sometimes you need contrast to define areas and enhance visual impact.
Of all occasional furniture, it is perhaps chairs that offer the greatest potential for transforming the look and feel of your rooms. With a wonderful array of styles, shades and fabrics to choose from, you can use chairs to bring valuable color, texture and interest to any area of your home.
You may require additional seating in your living space to accommodate guests or to enable you to relax with a better view of your garden. Rather than simply featuring an extra armchair that matches your suite, why not choose a chic accent chair? This contrasting piece could transform your space immediately. A swivel chair or recliner would be a wonderful indulgence as would a fireside chair in the cold winter months.
Perhaps your bedroom could also be improved by the addition of an accent chair or nursing chair? That empty corner could become the focal point of the room! Accent chairs can also be positioned in hallways and studies to striking effect and you don’t have to limit yourself to a single piece.
Choose chairs upholstered in bold colors or striking patterns to lift bland rooms. Feature velvet to enhance texture or to lend a sense of luxury to your spaces. Leather chairs are hard-wearing and practical yet imbue your home with amazing character while heritage designs bring contrast and interest to contemporary interiors. Sleek modern pieces can be used to update your interior without you having to replace your existing furniture. The possibilities are simply endless.
Hunter-gatherers wouldn’t ever have dreamt of being able to put their feet up! As late as the 19th century, most ordinary folk wouldn’t have experienced the luxury of lounging on a sofa. Over time, comfort became a consideration and now you can complete your living space with a fabulous sofa and a wonderful footstool or pouf.
Your footstool enables you to put your feet up but also gives you useful additional seating when you are entertaining. Better still, you can choose a style that incorporates storage to help keep your space clutter-free.
If your room is balanced and doesn’t require an injection of color, choose a footstool that matches your sofa. Alternatively, seek out a pouf in a bold or contrasting color for greater impact. You could feature several poufs in different colors or create striking effects with texture by including leather and velvet pieces in your space.
Incredibly useful and impressively versatile, bedside tables or lockers are now bedroom essentials. Enabling you to place a lamp next to your bed while providing somewhere to rest your phone and other accessories, lockers are must-haves.
Choose styles with drawers to give yourself useful additional storage. Lockers that match your bed create a unified look while contrasting pieces will help you to design a unique and memorable space.
Bedside tables don’t have to be confined to the bedroom. If you could use additional storage or somewhere to display a lamp in any room, you might be able to squeeze a locker into the space when a cabinet or console table simply won’t fit.
Occasional or Essential?
These days, the term occasional is something of a misnomer. More often than not, occasional furniture is a permanent feature of your room with a specific purpose. It isn’t brought out occasionally, it is used every day, even if its role is a decorative one. These furnishings are not distinguished by occasional use but rather by versatility.
Occasional pieces give you choices and creative possibilities. A sofa is for sitting on and a bed for sleeping in. But an occasional table could be anything you want it to be!
Lifestyle Furniture has a large collection of occasional furniture such as occasional tables, chairs, bedside tables with the best price in Fresno, CA. Come to us right now for amazing discounts!

Check out our list of five reasons to invest in quality dining room furniture, so you can make the most of every single purchase.
The most important reason to invest in quality dining room furniture is that it will last for many years. Cheap, low-quality furniture is typically made of materials like manufactured wood or plywood that won’t hold up well to lots of use. If you enjoy entertaining and hosting dinner parties, you need dining room tables and chairs that will stand the test of time. Look for dining room furniture made of solid hardwoods and pieces that are constructed using quality manufacturing techniques.
The Willow Dining Table will be sure to spark conversation with its organic beauty. Made from a tree root, every table will have variations in grain pattern, color, and form that reflect the material’s natural origins. A glass top completes this stunning design.
Drawers and drawers on storage pieces should easily open and close without resistance, making them more functional, too. You want your table, cabinet, and chairs to last for a long time into the future. That means that it’s well worth it to spend the extra money on something high-quality so that you know it will stand the test of time.
Cheaper furniture tends to be mass-produced, which means it’s not as unique as higher quality furnishings. When you invest in something that’s high-quality, you’ll find many more unique products for your dining room. Look for beautiful dining room chairs that have unusual features like curvy metal legs or soft, velvet upholstery.
The generous curves of this hand-carved dining table gives it a sculptural effect that enhances any setting. Carefully finished reclaimed pine preserves the subtle variations in color, grain, and texture for an infusion of character in any space.

Generally, the higher the quality, the more unique details you’ll find. Statement pieces like large dining room tables accented with carved legs or dramatic pedestal bases will help you add visual impact to your dining room. Instead of buying something you can find anywhere, consider visiting our dining room furniture store in Fresno to find a broad range of high-end, uniquely made, beautiful furnishings for your home. Some furniture is customizable, which also makes it more special. You can choose your preferred wood type, finish, leg style, and more to create a one-of-a-kind look that no one else will have. This helps to ensure that your home stands apart from the crowd.
While most high-quality dining room furniture comes with a higher price tag, it can actually save you more money over time. Not only will this furniture last longer, but it means that you won’t have to spend extra money on replacements or repairs. A typical low-quality dining room table may last you around five years. However, high-quality dining room tables should last for at least a decade or much longer. Chairs that are made to last won’t collapse under your weight and they will maintain their shape no matter how long or how often you sit on them. Finishes will also last longer and be able to resist scratches and stains.
And if you ever decide to update your furniture, these items have a much higher resale value. They’re also a wonderful way to pass something useful on to your children when they move out of the home. When you look at the big picture, it makes much more sense to invest in something of high quality. You’ll be able to enjoy it for a longer amount of time worry-free.
Most brands that make high-quality furniture use safe, sustainable practices and materials. Imported or cheaper dining room furniture may apply finishes that can emit toxic chemicals into the air inside your home. VOCs or volatile organic compounds can get into the air and cause a variety of potential health issues. A quality furniture maker looks for ways to use sustainable materials like locally harvested wood or eco-friendly materials such as bamboo over synthetic materials.
Arianna Upholstered Dining Chair features elegant, slipcovered dining chairs with modern Farmhouse appeal. Simple wood legs let the crisp linen upholstery shine while creating an undeniable luxe vibe. Their lightweight design makes these comfy dining chairs ideal for easily moving around your dining room or patio.

Look for furniture that’s made in America, too. These items aren’t imported into the United States from overseas, which means they cause less harm to the environment due to fewer requirements regarding transportation. This furniture is also safer for you and your family because it won’t fall apart and potentially cause an injury. Sturdy, durable furniture can handle the rigors of daily use without falling apart on you when you least expect it. When you invest in this type of high-quality dining room furniture, you’re also lowering your carbon footprint and contributing to a cleaner and greener environment for future generations.
A standard dining room table is fine, but it might not provide you with the level of functionality you’re looking for. High-quality dining room tables that are expandable allow you to make your table larger to accommodate more guests when you need to. These tables are extremely convenient and will help you get more use out of your dining room as a whole. Some tables also include drawers for handy storage of things like silverware and napkins.
Bring beauty and comfort into your dining room with this Amelia collection. This complete set, featuring a rectangular extending table that seats up to eight people, also includes four side chairs upholstered in oatmeal fabric to match the table. The espresso finish on the base of the table features solid hardwood framing and accents, while oak veneer forms the tabletop's top surface. Create the perfect dining area to complete your home with this collection.

The same applies to things like your dining room chairs. Chairs that are stackable or dining benches help you free up square footage in the dining room. Quality chairs that have extra features like plush cushioning or a swivel design also contribute to the comfort factor when eating meals and entertaining. Large, high-quality dining room cabinets come with lots of options like adjustable interior shelves and extra storage drawers. The more you can get out of your furniture, the more you’ll enjoy it.
Keep these tips in mind when you’re ready to invest in new dining room furniture, so you can spend your money wisely. Visit our showroom in Fresno today to discover an amazing selection of exceptionally high-quality dining room furniture. Or, browse our website here for shopping online, we offer delivery within 70 miles from Fresno which are Clovis, Madera, Hanford, Lemoore, Visalia, Selma, Kingsburg, Firebaugh, Coalinga, Mendota, Kerman.
If you're itching to update your home without making a drastic change, Lifestyle Furniture is here to give you some easy ways to embrace the spring season inside and out.
Add a Pop of Color
Bring in pops of color to your bedroom by mixing in new light-weight blankets, throw pillows and other decor in spring-appropriate hues. Replace those dark, winter-themed accessories with Easter-ready pastels. Robin’s egg blue, soft green and yellow may scream spring but are also appropriate for the warmer weather months. Accent rugs are another easy and effective way to add color to your space. There are many cost-effective options, so you can even switch your area rugs out with the seasons.

Looking to add a new design style to your space this season? Bohemian-inspired decor is trendy right now. It relies on fun textures, colors and patterns that are sure to pop in your space and give you the spring update you desire.
Spring Table Decorations
For a dining table, easy decorating ideas for spring involve greenery – either fresh stems and greens or succulents in planters. Bring in spring with pastels, florals, and springy patterns in table runners, napkins, placemats, or table cloths.
For dining table or coffee table bouquets, choose creative and simple vessels that fit your style, whether that’s rustic or modern, industrial or farmhouse chic. Contain your spring blooms in mason jars, berry baskets, pitchers, pretty bottles, or barware. Consider a European tabletop garden like a pretty spring nest with moss and egg décor.

Keep it simple and swap out a few of the items in your coffee table and bookcase décor. Add subtle spring flavor with bicycles, lemons, birds, and terrariums. Update your bookshelves with picture frames and other objects in a springy color palette, while editing out anything that speaks more of winter.
Fabulous Floral
Using fresh flowers brings the beauty of the outdoors inside and is one of the easiest home updates that goes with April showers, May flowers and summer sunshine. There’s nothing like a sprig of forsythia in a glass vase to announce that spring is here. Any new bloom in a bright, festive pot is a welcome addition. Separating bundles of colorful tulips into small vases makes for a striking display. If fresh flowers are not your thing or are simply too hard to find, try incorporating faux plants. Placed on accent tables or on the mantle, these plants play incredibly well with the budding seasonal aesthetic.
Take your love for florals a step further by incorporating a show-stopping floral accent chair or floral area rug into your home. Accent furniture pieces tie the look of a room together. Choose a floral design that complements your decor while also adding interest to your space. The addition of a floral rug to your space is an easy and affordable way to create a bold change. Its floral motif can work well with both traditional and contemporary styled spaces.
Smells of the Spring
Out with pumpkin spice and in with the white jasmine and citrus candles. More spring-friendly scents burning throughout will have your space feeling fresh and uplifted as you transition to a spring-inspired home.
Wall Updates
Celebrate spring with new wall art and inventive wall fixtures. Exchanging a few wall decor pieces here and there as the seasons switchover is a great way to make your room feel fresh and updated. Adding a beautifully framed mirror in your space will not only help bounce light off the walls but help add texture to your room as well. Still haven’t gotten enough florals? Wallpaper can make a bold yet beautiful statement in any room. Peel and stick wallpaper is a simple way to turn a blank wall into the perfect Instagram-worthy backdrop. Consider it a chic upgrade to grandma’s floral covered walls.
Let There Be Light
Lighten up your space with bold pastel lights such as yellow fixtures and decorative accents. Don’t forget to let the light shine in from the outside too. As spring has sprung and the hours of daylight increase by the day, it is the quintessential time to replace those heavy, dark curtains with a whiter and lighter alternative. Create a more open and happy space with more light!
Change your Curtains
Window curtains have a huge effect on the look of your spaces. As such, replacing your heavy winter draperies with some colorful and light shades and curtains could work wonders for your spring home décor. For a few hundred dollars, you can get some readymade curtain panels and have a complete overhaul to welcome the spring. Of course, you could also get some custom window draperies and shades though this will certainly cost more.
Spruce up the Bedding
Spring is all about awakening, so it’s the perfect time to wake up your bedroom with some new bedding. Easily refresh your look by switching out your heavy winter blankets, throws and pillows with lighter weight and toned styles. The light and airy spring bedroom feel can be best accomplished through layering neutrals and light shades, like white and pale pinks. Neutrals paired with faux plants or wooden accents also scream springtime.

Rearrange and Repurpose
Work with what you already have. Repaint the walls or touch up the ceiling. But don’t stop there with spring painting. Make what’s old new again by reupholstering a piece of furniture in your home. Pick out a bright and fun spring-inspired fabric that complements the other elements in your space well. Not ready for a DIY project? One of the easiest ways to feel an update in your space is by rearranging the existing furniture. With only a few minutes of your time, it will feel like a brand-new space that you can easily fall in love with all over again.
Feel free to take any tips you enjoyed and run with it this spring! Know that any addition or change you make in your space, big or small, will have a lasting impact throughout the season! Don’t forget to visit Lifestyle Furniture website to discover a wide range of furniture which is weekly updated to help you refresh your home for spring. Put Sleep First
Click to image for shopping online
When it comes to designing your bedroom, you’ll want to put sleep first. In fact, you should consider removing anything that doesn’t contribute to restful sleep. While some people use their bedroom as a makeshift home office, for example, doing so can cause distractions when you’re laying down to rest. So can exercise equipment, televisions, craft stations, and unfolded laundry. If you want to optimize your sleep, start by optimizing your bedroom and removing any distractions and stressors.
Find the Right Mattress
Click to image for shopping online
If you want to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer, the first thing you’ll want to do is find the right mattress for your sleep style. If you sleep with a partner who tosses, turns, or kicks in their sleep, for example, you might consider a king-size memory foam mattress. That way, both you and your partner have more space and the motion isolation of the memory foam means you likely won’t feel it every time your partner moves throughout the night.
You’ll also want to consider the different types and firmness levels of potential mattresses. A plush memory foam mattress will provide different benefits than a firm innerspring mattress, so it’s important to take the time to consider factors like whether you’re a back-sleeper or a side-sleeper when deciding on a mattress.
From there, you can move onto your bed’s base. Adjustable base beds, for example, can help prevent snoring and symptoms of acid reflux, alleviate back and joint pain, improve blood circulation, and help prevent falls for people with mobility issues. Because mattress technology has improved so much in the past decade, a new mattress from Star Furniture could be just what you need to get a better night’s sleep.
Clear the Clutter
Click to image for shopping online
Many people find clutter to be stressful, and since stress can lead to sleep problems, it’s best to keep your bedroom tidy. One of the best ways to control clutter involves using the right storage furniture. Choosing the right dressers, nightstands, and armoires will make it easier for you to keep your room clutter-free because you can easily make it so every item has a designated storage place. In addition to larger pieces of storage furniture, you can also use trays, baskets, and bowls to contain smaller items that you use every day. A jewelry tray on top of your dresser, for example, gives you some place to put your wedding ring and other daily wear items so that they’re not spread all over your nightstand.
Pick the Right Bedding
If you’re wondering how to set up your bedroom for better sleep without breaking the bank, bedding is a good place to start. The first thing you’ll want to consider are the sheets. Especially if you’re a hot sleeper, you’ll want to consider moisture-wicking sheets. While cotton and bamboo sheets are both naturally moisture-wicking, there are also Dri-Tec performance sheets that feature a ventilating weave for better airflow.
When it comes to blankets, comforters, and duvets, you’ll want to consider the season. One good trick is to layer your bedding so that you can adjust your own temperature throughout the night. Once you have the right bedding, be sure to make your bed every day. Not only can it make you feel happier, but it can also help the bed feel more comfortable.
Upgrade Your Pillow
Click to image for shopping online
Many experts suggest replacing your pillow every two years. However, most people tend to keep the same pillow for much longer. If you’re wondering how to set up your bedroom for better sleep, it might be time to upgrade your pillow. Luckily for you, there are many comfortable pillows for sale at Star Furniture.
When choosing a pillow, start by considering the material. Memory foam, for example, can be great for people who suffer from neck pain because of the extra support. Down pillows, on the other hand, may be a better option for people who prioritize softness. You’ll also want to consider the thickness of your pillow. If you’re a stomach sleeper, for example, you might prefer a soft, thin pillow, while side sleepers may prefer a thick, firm pillow. Don’t be afraid to test out different materials and styles until you find the one that works best for you.
Keep it Quiet
Click to image for shopping online
Noise can also prevent people from getting a good night’s sleep. That’s why noise reduction is one of our favorite tips for better sleep. To reduce noise in your bedroom, start with a rug. Not only can rugs help reduce echoes and other noises, but they also make your bedroom feel cozy.
If you’re looking for bedroom rug placement ideas, one of the most common placements involves having roughly ¾ of the rug under the bed. With this placement, you’ll want the rug to be big enough that each person steps onto the rug when getting out of bed, which can help muffle footsteps if one person gets up earlier than the other. Upholstered beds can also be good for noise reduction.
In addition to adding rugs and upholstered beds, you can also use fans and other noise machines to help with unwanted noise. Ceiling fans work great for noise control and they can also help keep you cool overnight. While they have white noise machines to mimic these sounds, you can also create your own white noise with air filters, fans, air conditioners, and other machines. If you find certain other sounds relaxing, sleep sound machines could help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. You might find the sound of rain, the sound of crashing waves, or the sounds of birds chirping a great way to block out other noise and lull you to sleep.
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
Many people underestimate how much light affects our sleep cycle. That’s why if you want to set up your bedroom for better sleep, you can’t be afraid of the dark. Blackout blinds and curtains, for example, can be especially helpful for people who find that they wake up at first light. In fact, even the light from your neighbor’s house or the full moon shining through the window can affect the length and soundness of your sleep.
But sleeping isn’t just about the dark. In fact, having a reading lamp on your respective nightstands can make a difference. Rather than having to leave the overhead lighting on to accommodate the partner that likes to stay up reading, they can use a small lamp on their own nightstand so it’s not as bright for their partner. Sleeping masks can also be great for when one person has different lighting needs than the other. Blocking out excess light and sound is one of the best tips for better sleep, so make sure you do everything in your power to make things as dark and quiet as you need to sleep soundly.
Reduce Allergens
Click to image for shopping online
When it comes to tips to help you sleep better, reducing allergens in your bedroom can go a long way to helping you get a better night’s sleep. One easy way to reduce allergens is to use a hypoallergenic mattress protector. This item covers your mattress, protecting it from sweat, dust, and other microbes that lead to mold and fungi. Some mattresses and pillows are also made from hypoallergenic materials for further protection. Even washing your bedsheets more frequently and showering before bed can make a big difference in your allergy symptoms.
Another way to reduce allergens is to use an air purifier in your room. These devices eliminate particles like pollen, dander, smoke, and dust mites, which can reduce your allergy symptoms. Plus, they tend to create a white noise sound that can help people sleep. Humidity levels also play a role, so if you live in a dry climate, you should consider a dehumidifier and if you live in a wet climate, you should consider a humidifier.
While many people like to sleep with their pets in their bedroom, doing so can lead to pet dander, one of the most common allergens. If your animal does sleep with you in bed, you may want to consider increasing the frequency with which you wash your sheets. You might also want to use heavy-duty mattress and pillow protectors to keep these allergens from infiltrating.
Try Calming Colors
Click to image for shopping online
Wondering how to set up your bedroom for better sleep using your bedroom color palette? Try calming colors. Light blue walls, for example, set a restful, peaceful tone that can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Greens can also work well since they call to mind nature, which has a soothing effect on many people. Just look at the biophilic design trend! Cool neutrals like gray and silver, can also help you wind down for sleep. Just think about how easy it is to stay in bed when the sky is pale and gray. Regardless of what color you choose for your bedroom, you’ll want to make sure to consider how it will affect your sleep. Bright, vibrant walls, for example, might catch too much light and make it harder to stay asleep once the sun is up, even though they might look stylish!
In addition to the colors, you’ll want to consider the shine of the paint. When painting your bedroom, you’d be better off choosing flat or matte colors, rather than anything with a glossy shine. Glossy paint tends to catch and reflect light, which can negatively impact your sleep cycle, especially during the summer when the sun rises before you do.
Ditch the Electronics
Click to image for shopping online
Studies have shown that the blue light that shines out from our electronics can have a negative effect on our sleep. If you want better sleep, try not to use your phone, tablet, or computer in the hour before you go to sleep. If you’re extra tempted to look at your phone, you might even consider storing all of your electronics outside of your bedroom to remove the temptation entirely. Even watching television before sleep can cause problems for some people, so consider making your bedroom a completely electronic-free zone.
Now that you know how to set up your bedroom for better sleep, it’s time to visit a Lifestyle Furniture at 21 E Shaw Ave, Fresno to shop our huge selection of mattresses and bedroom furniture or browse our website. Plus, the good new is our store has just expanded the delivery network to more local cities including: Clovis, Madera, Hanford, Lemoore, Visalia, Selma, Kingsburg, Firebaugh, Coalinga, Mendota and Kerman.

2022 is finally here and 2021 is gone and over. It was a great year despite the craziness of the pandemic, but all in all, we got through it and are ready for this new year. What is great about a new year is that it can bring a fresh perspective and an invitation for change. Whether you are someone who sets new yearly goals or someone who wants to start building out new habits for success.
What other people might want to do is change their environment aka their home’s look. Right now is a great time to think about changing your home’s look with all the lockdowns and quarantines we are facing. Maybe you want to create an office space to work from home more efficiently or need a new sofa to be comfy on while you binge your favorite shows. Whatever the case Lifestyle Furniture has new fashionable furniture for you in 2022 to shop from. In this article, I will cover some of the new furniture looks that we are bringing to you this new year that you can be looking forward to.
Lifestyle Furniture is a family-owned business, but we are a top leader in the game of fashionable furniture here in Fresno & Clovis with one of the largest showrooms the central valley has to offer. Our showroom floor is 50,000+ sq ft and we carry some of the most unique fashion furniture pieces that cannot be found anywhere else and this new year is no different.
One of our newest partners that we have this year is Classic Homes Furniture. Classic Homes Furniture is known for its handcrafted and sustainable furniture. Every piece that is made is limited in number so if you are looking for exclusivity and style then this is your pick. Here are a few new fashionable furniture pieces that will be here at Lifestyle Furniture this year in 2022.
First up is one of the biggest dining sets that you will probably see and that is the Live Edge Dining Table. The table can seat anywhere between 6 - 10 people comfortably. Its natural look is perfect to mix and match many different dining chairs with. It is a one-of-a-kind piece that can bring a down-to-earth look to your home. This is perfect for a large family to gather and break bread or even for a conference table for a business. It is a piece of durable furniture that will remain in style for years to come.
Next is the Magdalena Bedroom Collection. With Magdalena, you can bring rustic style to the master bedroom. This collection features beautiful strands of mango wood, reclaimed wood construction, iron hardware, and elegant period finishes. Whether you favor hand-finished designs or love the charm of distressed pieces, the Magdalena bedroom collection introduces an elegant array of bedding that will make a timeless statement in your living space.
The last one I will mention from Classic Homes Furniture is the 60” Willow Dining Table. Refined Designs for Everyday Living. The Willow Dining Table will be sure to spark conversation with its organic beauty. Made from a tree root, every table will have variations in grain pattern, color, and form that reflect the material’s natural origins. A glass top completes this stunning design.
All our teak root tables come from trees that have fallen naturally and harvested only with government permission. For every tree harvested, we plant a new one, helping to restore the natural environment.
Moving forward, some new fresh looks we have coming from Lifestyle Furniture bring style and class. This comes from our department of bedroom sets. We have some new arrivals that are in stock and ready to ship and they go by the names of Corona and Lyra.
The Lyra bedroom collection is fit for royalty. It is a subtle cream color that can pair with almost any color of the bedding. This collection includes a modern style bed, nightstand, a dresser & mirror combination, and a chest of drawers. What makes this set really stand out is the diamond staples in the head and footboards that really add a touch of bling and shine without overpowering the room.
If the Lyra bedroom collection is ying then the Corona bedroom collection is the yang. The Corona bedroom is a modern bed with a clean, striking design. Its minimalist detailing and rich solid wood legs enhance the bed's contemporary silhouette and create an understated elegant look that can grace many different interiors. Coordinate this bed with your favorite classic comforter or choose from our selection of modern comforters for an updated look.
The Corona is a perfect pairing with a lighter room to give it some bold, but subtle strongness. Pairing it with some white and silver decor plus maybe a plant or two and you’ll have people thinking you are a home designer.
The last products I am going to mention here in this article involve one of our brand new partnered brands. Jackson Furniture has been around since 1933, Jackson Furniture sectionals and sofas are designed to help families relax together in a room filled with comfortable furniture. The distinguishing feature of a Jackson Furniture sofa is the Comfort Coil Seating and steel framing, which offer ultimate comfort and durability. The company is well known for its popular Catnapper recliners, but Jackson sectionals are every bit as comfortable for relaxing at home.
We have three new arrivals to begin the new year of 2022. I introduce to you the 3pc Middleton sectional with chaise. The contemporary farmhouse styling of this sectional brings comfort and style to any room. The seats are constructed of individually pocketed coils encased in foam and topped with a layer of cool gel-infused memory foam for a long-lasting, comfortable and supportive seat. Covered in a soft, durable 100% polyester fabric in a light gray/brown color the sectional is durable enough for use in a family room, basement, or bonus room. The exceptional styling shows through with the included decorator accent pillows and nickel nailhead accents along the base rail.
Even though this is classified as a farmhouse style sectional it still has versatility due to its cream and neutral color. It can easily be paired with beach house and ocean decor to give you the coastal look that you have always wanted.
The next sectional we have for you this year is the McPherson 6 pc reclining sectional. The McPherson Lay Flat Reclining Living Room Collection by Jackson Furniture features a Farmhouse Casual styling with its slim transitional arm design and soft chenille fabric. Get Cozy with a Loveseat
Looking for seating ideas for a small living room? Loveseats are a great seating option when you’re short on space in your living room. Unlike sofas and sectionals, which have three or more cushions, loveseats tend to offer only one or two cushions, and are best suited for seating one to two people. Because of their small size, loveseats can easily fit in even the most awkwardly shaped living rooms, and unlike accent chairs, they offer you some extra space to spread out.
As their name implies, loveseats can also be a great seating option for couples, since they give you enough space to sit together while keeping you close enough to snuggle. While loveseats work great in small living rooms, they can also be a great addition to larger ones. In fact, many living room sets include a matching loveseat to place adjacent to your sofa for a more curated look. However you decide to use your loveseat, you’ll find that they can be a great addition to your living room design. Browse the Lifestyle Furniture’s loveseat collection here.
Bring Everyone Together with a Sectional
When it comes to living room seating ideas, it’s hard to beat the inherent comfort of a large sectional sofa. If you’re hanging out with the immediate family, there’s plenty of room for everyone to spread out and get comfortable. If you’re having people over, sectionals naturally offer extra seating and a built-in conversation area that makes it easy for your guests to keep the party going.
Plus, if you choose a modular sectional, you’ll have the flexibility to rearrange the pieces into different configurations whenever your seating or design needs change. Because sectionals come in so many shapes, sizes, colors, and styles, you’ll have no problem finding the sectional sofa that fits your exact needs. Whether you’re looking for a power reclining sectional to take your movie night to the next level or a small modern sectional to match your mid-modern design, a sectional sofa can go a long way toward helping you create the living room of your dreams. Need help choosing a sectional? Our sectional sofa collection can help!
Bring on the Bench Seating
Utilizing all of the space in your living room can be a challenge, especially if you’re decorating an awkwardly shaped living room. That’s why one of our favorite living room seating ideas involves putting a stylish bench behind your sofa. Not only are benches the ideal depth and shape for behind the sofa, but they also have multifunctional uses. If you choose a storage bench seat, for example, you can use the bench as extra seating and extra storage. If you have photos, trinkets, plants, or other items to display, the bench can double as seating when you need it and a display area when you don’t. Just make sure that if you’re entertaining guests who might need a place to sit over the course of the evening that you remove the display items, throw a pillow or blanket on top for visual interest, and let your guests take advantage of the extra space.
Not sure which type of bench to choose? Think about both function and form. A stylish wood bench is great for displaying objects but might not be as comfortable if guests are sitting on it for hours at a time. In addition to being stylish, upholstered benches have a little extra cushion, which means they can be more comfortable for guests. But depending on the material, you may be limited in what you can display on the bench when it’s not in use. If you’re worried about containing the clutter in your living room, it might make sense to go with a storage bench. That way, you can use it to store toys and puzzles, reading material, shoes, blankets, or anything else that’s taking up space in the room.
Swap Your Coffee Table for a Cocktail Ottoman
When it comes to living room seating ideas, swapping out your coffee table for a cocktail table is a great way to add extra seating without taking up extra space in your living room. Because cocktail ottomans can serve multiple functions, they’re more versatile than traditional coffee tables. You can use them as a surface for holding beverages, a table for playing board games, a comfortable spot to rest your feet while you watch TV, and extra seating when you’re entertaining guests for the holidays or other celebrations.
Many cocktail ottomans even come with built-in storage for blankets, games, puzzles, crafting materials, and any other items you want to keep out of sight when people are over. Plus, cocktail ottomans come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and styles so you can find the one that best fits your unique design needs.
Double Up on Accent Chairs
While accent chairs, by definition, have a role beyond function, that doesn’t mean they can’t be used as extra seating in your living room. In fact, doubling up on accent chairs can be a great way to add style, sophistication, and an additional place to sit in your living room.
To get started, you’ll want to choose a set of accent chairs that complement the décor, create a focal point, or add a splash of color or pattern to the room. Then, decide where it makes the most sense to place them side by side. Not only does doubling up on accent chairs add symmetry to the room, but they make it easy to fill an empty corner in your living room. That way, when guests are over to celebrate, you’ll have a built-in conversation area that also adds visual interest to your living room design.
Sprinkle in Some Pouf Seating
Poufs are short, solid cushions that sit directly on the ground and can be used in a variety of ways. Whether you’re looking to add some extra seating, a stylish accent piece, a comfortable place to prop your feet, or a smooth surface to hold drinks and reading material, poufs can help you get the job done. As far as living room seating ideas go, poufs can be used to create additional seating areas in your home that can easily be rearranged depending on your specific needs.
Whether you store a few in a corner for an intimate conversation area or plop a few around the coffee table for an impromptu kid’s table, poufs can add a lot of versatility without taking up too much space. Plus, they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and styles, which means you can use them to add visual interest to your living room design.
Score a Sofa Table with Stools
Whether you’re having guests over for the holidays or hosting friends for a weekly movie night, a sofa table with stools is one of the most versatile living room seating ideas. Not only do sofa tables with stools provide extra seating, but they come with a built-in surface that enables your guests to munch on appetizers or dig into a Thanksgiving feast.
Plus, if you’re planning to watch the Macy’s Day Parade, Christmas Movies, or the big game, sofa tables with stools give you a prime viewing position. Because sofa tables fit so snugly behind the sofa, and because the stools can be easily pushed under the table, they won’t take up extra space when not in use. And because of their narrowness, as long as your sofa isn’t pushed up against the wall, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding the space to put it, even if you’re working with a small living room. Ready to start shopping? Browse our huge selection of console tables for sale at Lifestyle Furniture.
Get Chic with a Chaise
Unlike sofas and loveseats, which tend to have arms on both sides, a chaise lounge offers you the ability to use the corners of the seat more fully. As far as living room seating ideas go, chaises offer two main perks: extra seating when entertaining guests and a comfortable space to spread out when you want to read, watch TV, or take a nap.
Whether you’re using your chaise to create a stylish reading nook or as a way to squeeze in some extra seating in an unclaimed corner of your living room, your chaise lounge can go a long way toward creating a comfortable and inviting space for your everyday life and for special occasions. Plus, they’re incredibly stylish and can fill empty spaces in the room, adding depth, visual interest, and texture to your living room design. Shop our selection of chaises and settees today!
Reclaim the Recliner
When you call to mind a recliner, you’re probably picturing the unsightly chairs that your grandparents used to have shoved into the corner of their living room. But recliners have come a long way in both technology and style. In fact, one of our favorite living room seating ideas involves taking advantage of the beauty and technology of modern recliners.
Not only can you find chic, stylish silhouettes, but many recliners have advanced technological features, including power reclining, lift technology, massage capabilities, and more. Especially if comfort is your priority, recliners give you the perfect space to stretch out and relax, whether you’re hanging out with friends, watching the big game, or working from home.

Need to work from home? These home office design tips will ensure it is easy and productive
Nailing that home office design is so important, especially at the moment with so many of us working from home a lot more. So how do you create a space that ensures a productive atmosphere no matter what size space you are dealing with?
Start by thinking about the purpose of your home office. If you’ll be working in there on a daily basis, creating a different feel from the rest of your rooms may help you to focus, while a room that's part home office, part homework study, part home admin center might look better decorated to match the rest of your home – especially if it's part of an open plan scheme. Long story short, Lifestyle Furniture will give you some tips for a perfect space to work from home. Intersted in some furniture in this post? Click to images for shopping online.
Choose A Location That Best Suits Your Working Style
The first – and probably the most important – thing to think about when designing a home office is where your home office ought to be located. Consider your working style and the nature of your work, as well the needs of the people you live with.
If your work is solitary and requires quiet and privacy, a garden office room, garage conversion or home office in a loft conversion is most appropriate.
On the other hand, if you run a small business from home while keeping an eye on children, you may need your workspace near the kitchen or sitting room, perhaps in an under-used dining room. An ideal solution in this case might be a cupboard workstation.
Or, if you simply don't have the space elsewhere, a spare bedroom or corner of a bedroom or living space can do the trick nicely, if well planned.
What Do You Need In Your Home Office?
When designing a home office ask yourself a series of questions to establish what is needed in your work area:
Always Design Your Home Office With Tech Needs In Mind
If your desk is in the middle of the room, you need to plan the safest way to run cables to a power point – flexible plastic trunking is the best option. Buy a power pack for charging your home office tech, which can be positioned under the desk. Top up your smartphone with a dual-purpose desk lamp that allows wireless charging.
With bespoke units, you can specify how many power points you want and where cables need to go, so ensure you factor in lighting, computers, printer, TV, music system and charging points. You may also want a mini-fridge and tea/coffee making facilities, too.
Invest In The Best Desk You Can Get For Your Budget
Choosing the best desk for your home office will involve considering how much space you have available in the room. The desktop needs to be big enough to accommodate your laptop or computer, while giving you space to take notes or sort files.
A corner desk will allow you to split the work station into two: one side for the computer, the other for paperwork. Be aware that integrated storage pillars (while incredibly useful) will dictate where you can sit and may affect achieving a comfortable working position. Like to be more mobile? A standing desk is worth considering.
Some desks have handy wire channels to keep your tangle of cables neatly out of the way. If your chosen desk does not, you will need to consider the placement of the desk for a neat and safe connection to plug sockets.
Have a look through at these office desks at our store for your consideration.
Pick A Great Office Chair
Match your office chair to the rest of the room’s furniture, rather than using a more typical office chair. But make sure it’s supportive and comfortable if you’re going to be sitting for hours. Opt for a swivel so you can adjust it to the right height.
The best office chair is a must for anyone sitting at a desk for any length of time. There is a wide choice online so it is easy to find something that is ergonomically designed and suits the look of your space.
Banish Clutter With Comprehensive Office Storage
Clutter is at its most distracting in the home office area, and you will want to make sure that the space is as tidy as possible, with all important paperwork easily accessible. Choose home office storage, such as shelving and smaller home office storage accessories that are functional and stylish and will encourage you to keep everything where it should be. Browsing our website for the best bookcases.
You may also need to make room for office accessories such as printers, scanners and document shredders. Think about whether you want these neatly packed away, or within easy reach on a worktop.
When you plan your fitted cupboards and units, make sure you allow enough room for displaying items that aren’t work-related. Shelving for treasured books and ornaments will all help create a space you want to be in, rather than have to be in.
Get Home Office Lightning Right
When planning the lighting for your home office design, remember to allow natural light in the room to blend in with your selected products. For homeworkers who use natural materials, position your desk close to the window to benefit from as much daylight as possible. If you’re working with computers or other screens, make sure you allow for the angles of natural light through the day and avoid glare.
A purpose-designed home office desk lamp is a must-have, but creating the right ambience in a home office is essential, and clever lighting is crucial to achieving it, too. Soften harsh light with a lampshade to set the mood and, if space is at a premium, pendant lighting is a good way to illuminate a room without cluttering it. Have a look at our pick of the best desk lamps.
Dress Your Home Office Window Practically
When designing your home office, think carefully about your choice of window treatment. Shutters will allow you to control the amount of light coming into your home office throughout the day. A light colored blind that blocks glare while still allowing in natural light might be a good option, too, if your computer screen is near a window.
If the room doubles as a bedroom, a blackout curtain that can be pulled over at night will ensure a restful sleep.
Create A Home Office Extension
Factoring a home office into an extension design is far easier than building an external garden office as you are already closer to your power and heat supplies. You should discuss these elements with your architect when you are planning the project from the start.
A new factor to consider is acoustics, especially within a busy household. To minimize distraction, place your office away from loud spaces like the living room, or insulate the room against sound as best you can.
If your office has a lot of glazing, ensure blinds are installed to regulate natural lighting, shade and temperature. Extensions tend to be cooler than the rest of the house, so investing in underfloor heating might also be a viable solution to keep the area warm without installing radiators, which can encroach on space.
Don’t Let An Awkward Space Deter You
If you can’t add a new home office, being creative with existing small space might be the solution. Hallways and landings that are often thought of as being unusable can actually be a perfect place to create a small home office.
If you have a small nook under the stairs, a hallway or even the living room, it could be suitable to neatly fit a small desk and a chair without it encroaching on the space itself.
To Sum Up
Now you're ready to start planning your home office. We truly hope that these tips will help you create a personalized yet productive home office that works for you. No matter what kind of home office you seek, invest the time and imagination to customize it to your lifestyle. After all, you’ll be using it every day!

Consider the Reflection
Before you hang a mirror take into account what is across from it. While we often hang mirrors based on available wall space, it’s important to think about what will be reflected in it. When hung opposite an important architectural element, painting, or piece of furniture it will give that item even more importance—as it will if hung across from something unattractive. Also, whenever possible hang a mirror across from a window. It will significantly increase the amount of light in the room.
Placement Matters
Aside from placing it across from something visually appealing, a mirror should always be hung at the appropriate height for the space. Unlike art which should always be hung at eye level, mirror placement will depend on what you want to be reflected. Eye-level works in many cases, but higher or lower can work depending on the situation.
Think Big
Don’t be afraid to use a large mirror in a small space. Mirrors create the illusion of depth and space so they can really help make a small room feel bigger. A full-length mirror leaning against the wall is a great decorative element to use in a tiny room. Mirrors are also great for narrow spots such as hallways.
Create a Focal Point
Mirrors make great focal points. It’s why they are so often placed above mantels and dining room buffets. Hang sconces on either side and you’ve got the perfect focal point in any room. If you want to go even bigger, a wall covered entirely in mirrors creates a terrific feature.
Don’t Forget About Style
Mirrors can be modern, traditional, edgy, classic—pretty much anything. It all depends on the frame. Consider what effect you want to create when choosing a mirror in a frame. A beautiful Chinoiserie mirror will have a far different effect on a room than a simple wood frame. There’s also the mirror itself, smoky glass and antique mirrors with imperfections can be very moody and greatly contribute to the look of a space.
Hang Mirrors Properly
A small nail hammered into the wall won’t cut it. Use proper wall hooks or picture hangers and be sure to use two (one at either end). This will ensure the mirror is held flat to the wall. A wire hung on a single hook is not only dangerous but it can cause the mirror to rest against the wall at an angle, distorting the reflection. If the mirror is very heavy, have it hung by professionals.
About Mirrored Furniture
Mirrored furniture has gone through a few periods of popularity. While it can be great for reflecting light and elongating walls, don’t use it in a room that has a lot going on. The extra reflections will just be too much.
Use Several Mirrors at Once
Don’t be afraid to create a gallery wall with mirrors. Like with any photo wall, treat them as one unit when deciding on placement. That said, a mirrored gallery wall will look best in a room with little clutter. All of the frames can be visually busy—add that to a small, cluttered room and it could be too much.
The Best Places to Hang a Mirror in Your Home
If you hang a mirror in a room, you'll be adding a basic accessory and necessity. Whether it’s a hallway or grand ballroom, baby’s room or bathroom, the addition of a mirror adds beauty to the space and makes it feel more open or spacious.
Wherever you intend to hang a mirror, be sure the view is something worthy of reflection. A mirror opposite a window will reflect a lovely outdoor setting and give the illusion of a second window. An interesting architectural feature can be reflected and give balance to a room. A mirror can be strictly functional or the focal point in a room. Whichever it is, it will provide light, beauty, illusion, and convenience to your home.
Bathroom
The first place you think of a mirror is in a bathroom. Sure, it often gets clouded when you get out of the shower, but you could not live without it—and shouldn’t have to. Over the sink is the most popular place. Shaving and applying makeup are much easier with a good-sized mirror mounted in a frame or directly to the wall. Try installing one with a magnifying side hanging from the wall, and you’ll love it!
If you have space, install a wall-hanging mirror with an adjustable arm directly across from the mirror on the sink wall. You’ll be able to look at the back of your head without having to juggle a hand-held mirror. If you have a really small bath, you might consider hanging another framed mirror over the bathtub. It can help to make a small bath look larger.
Bedroom
A full-length mirror is a must for any bedroom! If you have a wall large enough, hang it there. If you must, you can hang it on the bedroom door, on a closet door, or even inside the closet so it won’t be seen except when you want it to be. This will make getting dressed much more convenient. Be sure you install the mirror with enough room in front to be able to stand back. It’s hard to see if your slip is hanging down if you’re too close to the mirror.
Child's Room
Children love looking at themselves in a mirror, and a child’s room is the perfect place to hang one. For an infant, carefully suspend a mirror over the crib so the baby can see himself. A mirror on the wall near the baby’s changing table will keep the child occupied while you’re doing the changing. In a toddler’s or older child’s room, be sure to mount a mirror at the child’s eye level. A simple mirror placed in front of a child in a car can give hours of distraction for a long ride.
Over a Desk
If your desk faces the wall, you might consider installing a wall-mounted mirror above it. It will help to make your home office feel larger, you’ll feel comfortable that no one could come up behind you, and you’ll get an idea of what’s going on around you.
Near the Front Door
It's a wonderful idea to have a nice mirror mounted somewhere near your front door. Even better if there’s a nice table or small chest beneath it. You’ll be able to do a last-minute check on your hair and touch up your lipstick before going out. The table will provide a place to deposit mail and keys when you come into the house. A lovely arrangement of fresh flowers will look lovely, twice, when reflected in the mirror!
Over a Fireplace
A dramatic mirror installed over a fireplace will add warmth to a room. It will help reflect the activities in the room. Or hang a mirror on either side of a fireplace to help the room feel bigger.
On a Table
If you enjoy using candles and the beautiful glow they provide, use a mirror as a tray and stand the candles on the mirror. This will create the effect of doubling the number of candles and the light they send out. The only thing that won’t be amplified is the lovely scent that so many candles now have.
Over a Buffet
A mirror over a buffet or server in the dining room is a nice touch. If you’re entertaining, the mirror will reflect the lovely array of food you have displayed. Be sure the mirror doesn’t show the dirty dishes in the kitchen!

Ensure That Your Living Room is Comfortable and Inviting
Since you’ll probably spend most of your time in this space, look for living room furniture that’s not just beautiful, but also functional. If your living space has the room, consider a sectional sofa so you’ll have plenty of seating for lots of people. If you want to evoke a sense of luxury, bring a gorgeous chaise into your living space.
Reclining chairs and loveseats add a comfortable place to lounge and read your favorite book or watch TV. Speaking of entertainment, a TV console or a large entertainment center helps to create a focal point that you can group your furniture around.
Measure your new living room before you pick out furnishings for this space. As you look at how to choose furniture for your new house, consider a matching set that includes a chair, sofa, loveseat, and tables. A complete set makes everything easy and you won’t need to worry about coordinating separate pieces.
For tables, try something that has plenty of storage space like extra drawers, cabinets, or hidden shelving. A storage bench or ottoman is another great option for your living room. Storage pieces make it a snap to clean up and keep your brand-new living room beautiful and organized. Whatever you choose, try to buy furniture that reflects your unique style and personality.
Elevate Your Dining Room with Furniture Made for Entertaining
If you love to entertain guests, look for dining room furniture that makes eating and spending time together a comfortable affair. Upholstered dining chairs will ensure that everyone is comfortable as they dine and have discussions. For a casual and laid-back dining space, consider a tall pub table and a set of matching barstools or counter-height seats.
If your living room is short on space, look for an expandable dining room table. These tables can be extended to accommodate more guests and then you can easily return them to their original, smaller size when everyone goes home for the night. Smaller dining rooms are also a great place for a simple bistro set.
Dining benches can be another excellent choice for your new dining room. A dining bench creates a casual place to sit at the table, and they’re perfect for households with children since they can seat several people on one end of the table.
Other options for your dining room include storage cabinets or bars. This furniture is a fantastic way to stash items like your favorite dinnerware and glasses neatly nearby. When you’re ready to set the table, simply open your dining room cabinet and grab what you need. A bar in your dining room will help to make mixing and serving drinks easy and fun.
Design a Bedroom That’s Peaceful
The bedroom in your new home should be a place of peaceful retreat. To make this space calming, look for bedroom furniture that has soft tones like white, light brown, or gray. A king-size bed will give you plenty of room to stretch out, and a queen-size bed is a great choice if your bedroom doesn’t have the extra floor space.
Choose a matching dresser and nightstands so you have a handy place for convenient storage. Hang a beautiful mirror over your dresser that will help you prep for the day ahead. If you prefer a mirror that’s a bit larger, look for floor-length mirrors that will provide you with a head-to-toe reflection.
A great way to elevate the look of your new bedroom is with a stylish bench. Bedroom benches look gorgeous at the foot of your bed, and they also give you a place to sit down and put your shoes on in the morning. Storage benches offer extra space to hide pillows and blankets away.
If the bedroom in your new home is large, add an ottoman for a fantastic place to relax and hang out. A stool is another excellent choice for bedrooms. You can use your stool to sit at a vanity or move it around the room wherever a quick seat is needed. Don’t forget to finish the bedroom by choosing a comfortable, supportive mattress and colorful bedding to give your room a pop of personality.

With the right furniture and some imagination, finding furniture for your new house can be a fun, exciting event. While you definitely want every piece you choose to be stylish and beautiful, don’t forget to factor in other things like quality and comfort.

]]>Comfort is paramount, but there are many other variables to consider before settling on a sofa or sectional for your space.

Ever been in a smaller living room with a gargantuan sectional? If so, you’ve seen firsthand how the feng shui is flipped on its head. Too much seating, not enough room. The opposite is likewise disconcerting—an enormous basement den that would have been perfect for a sectional has a lonely looking sofa. It might as well be an upholstered raft drifting in a vast carpeted ocean.
You may have read that there’s no wrong answer when it comes to choosing a sectional or sofa for your living room, but we must beg to differ. In most cases, one of these in-home seating solutions is the clear winner. You just have to know which questions to ask to make sure you’re picking the right piece of furniture for your life and style.
Click to image for shopping online.
The answer to “Should I buy a sectional or a sofa?” actually depends on how you answer these four questions. So, without further delay, let’s figure out if you’re on Team Sofa or Team Sectional.
As we’ve mentioned, room size is critical when deciding whether a sectional or sofa makes the most sense. You might assume a sectional is only appropriate for larger rooms, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes a sectional can actually save space, depending on the room’s configuration and furnishings.
Typically, though, sofas are better for smaller living rooms. Still, every rule has an exception, and compact chaise sectionals are more widely available than ever before. Not all sectionals are massive modular behemoths meant to accommodate 15 people. Not wanting to overlook a huge segment of buyers, furniture makers have right-sized sectionals for smaller homes and apartments.

Depending on your room’s dimensions, the right sectional could be flush against—or very close to—the walls. Such an arrangement frees up usable space and opens pathways for better traffic flow.
In short, a sofa, sofa-loveseat combo or smaller sectional is probably best for a more modest living area. If the space is larger, an L- or U-shaped sectional will instantly transform it into a hub of conversation and comfort. Going the sectional route also removes a lot of the interior design guesswork, which is a welcome stress reliever for many.

The size of your family and social circle also play into the sofa vs. sectional debate. If the space allows, sectionals are great for big families who congregate in a common area. Most sofas will comfortably seat two people, but three can be tight.
Sectionals, on the other hand, score a point for their ability to serve as a gathering place that doesn’t require each person to give up their personal space. Four or five people on a sectional can easily spread out or snuggle up if they prefer. If you like the idea of having more space when several people are together, a sectional could be the perfect solution.

Sofas may only be able to seat two or three people comfortably, but they’re not meant to do all the work. If a sectional isn’t right for your space but you need more seating, look at pairing a sofa with another sofa, loveseat or accent chairs. This more traditional approach guarantees your guests or family members will have ample personal space.
Along with size, you’ll want to consider the room’s overall ambiance. Will it be a spot for teatime and hors d’oeuvres with guests or video gaming and vegging out with friends? Generally speaking, sofas round out a more formal feel while sectionals have a casual vibe.
Click to image for shopping online.
Do you host a book club or invite people over for fondue parties? If so, your room is likely well-designed, well-lit and ideal for social interaction. Sofas facing each other and accent chairs arranged around a coffee table or near a fireplace work nicely for these spaces. This type of setup encourages eye contact and dialogue.
Sectionals are great for cozier rooms made for lounging. Whether you want to circle up for a board game, relax with a pet or binge-watch your favorite show, sectionals invite you to settle in and stay awhile. That said, don’t rule out a sectional for a more buttoned-up living area. Upscale sectionals with higher-quality upholstery can dress up a living area and provide plenty of seating for larger groups when needed.
Click to image for shopping online.
Lastly, how finicky are you about furniture placement in your primary living area? Do you find yourself getting bored easily and wanting to rearrange things on a fairly regular basis? If the answer is yes, you may want to opt for a sofa over a sectional.
While sectionals offer a degree of versatility due to their modular construction, they’re rather heavy and can be challenging to move around in a confined space. Sofas require less effort to move and are easier to move back if you decide that new layout isn’t quite working the way you envisioned.

]]>It’s that beautiful season when there’s a nip in the air but the love, kindness and joy of the festival warms the bones. And while you may still be wondering what to gift your loved ones, what to rustle up for the perfect Christmas meal, don’t let your home take a backseat. After all, spending quality time at the pad with family and friends is what Christmas is all about. With a little inspiration, it’s really not that hard to transform your living space into a veritable wonderland this year.
“Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la!”
Not just your halls but every room in the house could do with a touch of magic to make it a Christmas haven. Here are our top, tried and tested, Xmas decoration tips, to keep it chic and elegant and yet rooted in opulent tradition.
Transform Your Living Room With The Magical Touch Of Christmas
The quintessential Christmas show stopper is, of course, the tree! Standing tall, topped off with a sparkling golden star or delicate-winged angel, the tree embodies the Christmas spirit. We say, don’t break with tradition, but go all out and adorn it with quirky and unique Xmas decorations this year. Ornaments boasting family pictures, handmade felt hanging decorations and hand-painted wooden and glass baubles will elevate your tree and give it real character.
The Christmas tree is central to your living room, let it shine!
Minimalism Is Fun
If your living room is small and cannot accommodate a towering Christmas tree, worry not. You can always opt for a tabletop tree or a tree in a jar. Minimalistic and fun! While wrapping gifts to stack under the tree go with a colour theme – you can choose from classic Christmas tones or opt for something different to up the kitsch factor!
A Pop Of Colour
Swap out the usual couch cushions with ones in festive hues and add a plaid throw or rug in too for a pop of colour. You can simply tie large bows or sprigs of fresh pine on already existing decor like picture frames, mirrors and bookshelves to completely up Xmas vibes. Add Christmas figurines to glass cabinets and shelves and drape strings of fairy lights across window sills and display units. Casually placed candles, pine cones and citrus fruits will add to the warmth of the family room too.
Christmas Decor For Your Dining Room
The dining table will be the star of your Christmas meal and deserves equal attention to detail. Elegant metallics in snowflake silver or starlight gold pair beautifully with natural pine cones and light-coloured and rustic wooden serve ware. As a Xmas centrepiece, you can put together an easy candle stand with a bunch of small twigs or cinnamon sticks. And, voila! You have the perfect table setting for the perfect Christmas feast. If you have steered clear of bright colours on the table, indulge with bright wreaths of evergreens hanging from light fittings, windows or door frames.
Brighten Up The Bedroom With Xmas Cheer
It’s tough to get out of bed in this weather but the right Christmas additions to the bedroom will bring a smile to your sleepy face. A bright-coloured contrasting blanket strewn over the bed can be supplemented with a few matching throw cushions. Strategically placed red and gold candles on bed-side tables or window sills can do wonders to break the dreariness of winter. Even a string of fairy lights casually draped over the headboard or across the dresser will instantly bring a Christmas feel to the room.
Christmas Decoration Ideas For The Heart Of Your Home – The Kitchen
Your guests may not wander into your sacred space – the kitchen – but you are going to want to be inspired while rustling up a scrumptious hearty Christmas meal or even a hot cup of cheer (aka cocoa!). Kitchen cabinets can be easily decked up with sprigs or garlands of evergreens – fresh ones lend a beautiful aroma to home too. Festive ribbons in the holiday colours – in checks, polka dots or chevrons – can be tied around pots and vases. Dull corners can be spruced up in a trice with brightly coloured candles. And you can easily swap out ordinary plates for solid red ones to complete your Christmas kitchen decor.
Spread The Christmas Sparkle Throughout Your Home
Apart from obvious rooms, you can easily infuse Christmas spirit into any nook or cranny of your house. If you have a staircase running down the centre of your home, don’t forget to drape an eclectic Christmas garland and fairy lights along the banister. You can even hang up decorative stockings on the staircase for a merrier look.
Keep It Simple And Handmade
Simple and handmade decorations are sometimes the best options, easy on the pocket and on the eye. A table or corner filled with homemade lanterns – old glass bottles filled with string lights – looks both quirky and festive.
Deck Up Your Front Door
A traditional Christmas wreath on your front door and matching wide ribbons on your potted plants looks warm and inviting.
These tiny little touches and tweaks to the mundane can spruce up your home and help you create the ideal setting for a cosy Christmas. Start with Decluttering
Everyone knows that life can get in the way, and that clutter is inevitable. However, if you’re having house guests over, it’s time to do a bit of decluttering before they arrive. Look in every room of your home, and put items away that either aren’t being used or that aren’t serving a specific purpose. By getting rid of the clutter, your home will automatically look cleaner and more open. It’s also a good way to create a blank slate for the rest of your house guest decor. You can also change some of your décor to fit the season or just make some updates to what’s already there in the process. Once the decluttering is complete, you’ll want to do some deep cleaning, too. Vacuum the carpets, mop hard surface floors, and thoroughly clean the kitchen and bathrooms. Not only will you feel much better about welcoming guests into your home, but they will be greeted with a clean, beautiful space.

Look at Your Layout
Take a close look at your living room, and how everything is currently laid out. Does it make sense the way that your living room furniture is placed, or do you think it might be time to do a little rearranging? Your living room furniture should be situated in a way that creates a central location for everyone to gather. Place the sofa in front of the fireplace and add some accent chairs on either side. A coffee table in front of the sofa and two end tables on either side will ensure that your guests have a place to sit down their drinks or other small items. Your dining room furniture should be placed so it’s easy for everyone to get up and walk around. Overall, you want the layout of each room to be as accommodating as possible and to have comfortable, functional furniture. Visit our showroom to find beautiful new living room furniture that will make your guests feel right at home.

Spruce up the Guest Bedroom
If you have a spare bedroom for your house guests, it’s a good time to make sure that it’s tidy and comfy. Look at your bedroom furniture and make sure that the bed is comfortable and roomy enough for at least two adults. Nightstands and dressers should be emptied so your guests have their own storage. You don’t have to completely empty out the closet, but you should at least leave a little room, so your guests have a place to hang up a few of their things. Add a soft area rug under the guest bed if you don’t have one already. Freshen up the bedding by either washing everything thoroughly or adding a brand-new set of sheets, pillowcases, and blankets. A comfy and cozy bedroom will ensure that your guests sleep well and that they feel welcome when they arrive.

House Guests: Sleeping Alternatives
If you don’t have a separate guest room, there’s no need to panic. You can add a futon or sleeper sofa to the living room to give them a comfortable place to spend the night. A sleeper sofa is a great choice since it has the look, feel, and functionality of a traditional sofa while also having the ability to turn into a full-size bed. Sleeper sofas come in a range of sizes, too. You can find them in twin, full, queen, and king sizes, depending on your needs. If you’re not in the market for new sofas, a simple futon or even a sleeper loveseat will also do nicely. Make sure that this living room furniture has a sturdy frame and that it’s extremely easy to convert to a bed once it’s time for your guests to slumber.

Stock Up on a Few Essentials
To make your guests feel at home, they’ll need to have easy access to some essential items. Stock your bathroom with a few small soaps, tubes of toothpaste, and other essential toiletries. Place some extra rolls of toilet paper in a cute woven basket in the bathroom. That way, your guests won’t have to try and figure out where you keep them, and they won’t feel embarrassed or uncomfortable if they need an extra roll. A stack of clean, fresh towels on the bathroom counter is another must. While you don’t have to completely stock your fridge and pantry, it also can’t hurt to make sure you have a few delicious grab-and-go snacks on hand, too.
Keep Colors Neutral
When it comes to the colors of your house guest decor, it’s best to keep everything as neutral as possible. Instead of dark colors or wild patterns, stick to linens and décor items in neutral colorways instead. Earthy shades of green, ivory, and beige all look elegant and sophisticated. They also won’t make your home feel overwhelming or like it’s too much for your guests. At a minimum, choose neutral colors for your guest bedroom. A soft area rug in a light cream or green and some nice neutral bedding should do the trick. You can always add some visual interest in the living room with artwork or a few fun decorative throw pillows. Overall, your guests will feel much more at home in a calming space filled with neutral hues.

]]>Alongside rain, sleet and wind, winter is known for its long nights and dark mornings that can leave you with a less than sunny disposition. While it might be dark and cold outside, you can banish misery by using the magic of light to create a warm, cosy haven in your home.
Soft, diffused light works best in creating a cosy warm atmosphere so opt for globe lamps to cast a diffused light in your space. As well as being on trend (did someone say circular silhouettes?) the globe shape evenly disperses light and produces a soft light and a warm ambience – perfect for creating a cosy living room or adding warmth to a bedroom. Choosing lamps or pendant lights with brushed brass or gold accents helps reflect the warm metallic hue around the room making it feel doubly cosy. Materials like beech, birch and other light wood will create a similar cosy feel.
Avoiding harsh overhead or strip lighting is key in creating a cosy mood, but unfortunately not all of us are blessed with installed light fixtures that cast a cosy glow. Our advice? Turn off the harsh lights and invest in table lamps that you can move about the room. Depending on the size of the room or space, place table or side lamps in each corner of the room so the warm glow is spread out and you have enough light for your activities, whether that’s reading a gripping novel or watching that new true crime documentary on Netflix.
If your existing lights are dimmable, then an easy fix is to dim the lights low for instant cosiness.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that rugs only belong on wooden or uncarpeted floors. Of course, rugs on uncarpeted floors really help a space feel more cosy, but layering up rugs on top of carpet adds new texture and depth – the shaggier and softer the rugs are, the cosier they’ll make your home feel. Adding softness under foot in the form of layers of rugs not only keeps in the heat, but also means you can sidestep your slippers, although who can resist slipping their feet into a pair of cosy sheepskin slippers?

Cushions, throws, blankets are the ultimate way to crank up the cosy factor in your home. When it comes to cushions, we say more is more. Pile them high on your sofa, chairs and even invest in larger, floor cushions to place round your coffee table. The more mismatched the better, experiment with different textures, fabrics and designs for maximum cosy impact. Fabrics like velvet and chenille add a touch of opulence while sheepskin and wool are the ultimate cosy fabrics, adding texture and warmth.
If we were to suggest just one item to make your home cosier this winter it would be warm blankets or throws. Wrap it round yourself as you curl up with a book and it provides actual warmth, or spread across your bed or sofa and it adds interest and different depths of texture. Depending on the size of your room, don’t just opt for a single throw or blanket; adding more than one means that you can spread it across the sofa and keep the other two or three to be used as blankets by any guests you have. While a pure cashmere blanket might seem like an investment, you’ll get the most cosiness and warmth for your buck. For those with more modest budgets, consider wool, mohair and velvet as inexpensive alternatives.
Candles are essential for anyone looking to bring more cosiness into their space. The benefits of candles are two fold: they cast a cosy glow to warm up a space, and, if you opt for scented candles, then you can also add scenting a room onto the list of benefits.
Dotting clusters of church or column candles around a room will spread out the light and warmth and add a bit of drama to your room. Just remember to blow them out before you go to bed!

On the theme of scents, smell is one of our most powerful senses which has the capacity to conjure up vivid memories and feelings. Don’t underestimate the power of scent in creating a cosy home environment this winter. We recommend woody aromas that recall a crisp alpine forest or warm, exotic scents that will transport you away from cold, miserable winter to sunnier climes and exotic lands.
Lavender based scents will help create a create a cosy, relaxed environment thanks to its de-stressing, calming qualities. A spritz of lavender room spray will help you unwind and recharge after a long day at work or battling the harsh winter weather.
While scented candles are an obvious choice in creating cosy homes in winter, there are a plethora of ways to scent a space to suit every taste, style and preference. While the obvious choice might be candles for their warming qualities, consider simpler, safer formats like scent diffusers and room sprays which work especially well for anyone with young children.
The more adventurous scent explorers might want to think about smudge sticks, palo santo and incense. For a sagey, natural scent then burning smudge sticks and palo santo will not only leave a lingering scent, but also cleanse spaces of negative and lethargic energy – perfect for anyone suffering from seasonal cabin fever. Anyone looking for purification power from their cosy scents should consider burning incense which comes in cone, stick or sachet format. Rich in pure essential oils, incense has powerful properties depending on the ingredients, for example purified lemon balm extracts have been found to be effective in the relief of stress, producing increased calmness.
The psychology of colour and the effect that certain colours can have on the mood and energy of a certain space has been well-documented. Generally cool, calm colours are recommended for bedrooms to aid relaxation, while warm, reddish hues work best for spaces like the dining room to encourage and stimulate conversation.
In search of cosiness at home, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to cool versus warm toned wall colours. When choosing wall colours for optimum cosiness, consider the depth and richness of the colour rather than the tone.
Winter is not a time to be spending excessive amounts of time outside but that doesn’t mean we can’t bring a touch of nature indoors. Flowers and plants will help bring the outside in at a time when the thought of going outside seems unbearable. Cultivate your own mini jungle by adding flowers and plants which will freshen up the space and add a welcome jolt of colour and greenery.
Lack of light can be plants’ worst enemy and unfortunately winter means long nights, dark days and drawn curtains, so opt for plants that flourish in darkness like monstera, peace lilies, succulents and sansevieria. These indoor plants require little maintenance: no need for direct sunlight and just a drink of water every now and then. Those who can’t commit to plant maintenance should consider faux plants as an alternative to the real deal. Opting for fake plants means you don’t have to be limited to choosing indoor plants that thrive during winter and can build out a mini jungle with any plants or flowers that take your fancy. Advances in production and materials mean that this new wave of faux plants are extremely realistic so it’s likely that passing guests won’t even know the difference.
Air plants are another botanic alternative, that are renowned for their air purifying qualities. Clearing the air of toxins and impurities, they’re very low maintenance and need just a light mist of water every week.
If florals are more your speed then a fresh bunch of flowers or stems every week will add some welcome colour and liven up mantelpieces, coffee tables and dining tables.
Art and prints might not seem like an obvious step in creating a cosy home but we recommend two different ways to use art and prints to make your home cosy in winter.
We’ve recently seen artists and designers turning to figurative, line drawings in their work, producing an array of stunning prints that focus on the human form. Rendered in muted colour palettes and curved lines, these prints work perfectly in cosy homes as they’re both striking and soft in equal measure – they work especially well in homes where natural colours are prevalent.
If you prefer your art and prints in a photographic style, then choosing outdoor or landscape photography can really help create a cosy home. Tranquil alpine scenes or lush winter forests help set the scene and amplify the feeling that it’s cold outside, but cosy and warm in your home.
While it can be tempting to crank up the thermostat during winter, save your money and the environment by filling your wardrobe with cosy clothing. A pair of sheepskin, wool or shearling slippers are an essential for truly cosy living, keeping toes toasty during sub-zero climates. Alongside slippers, another cosy essential is a thick knitted jumper. From pure wool fisherman jumpers, cashmere cardigans or cable knit sweaters, we recommend doing your research and finding the warmest jumper your budget will afford. Not only will you have it for life but you’ll be grateful for it during the next cold snap.
Everyone’s favourite winter activity is lounging indoors. With the elements raging outside there’s no better time to hunker down in your cosiest loungewear and indulge in a book or film. Cashmere loungewear (think cashmere joggers and a jumper) is the ultimate accompaniment to your next Netflix binge or podcast marathon. While a full cashmere set might not be a feasible option for everyone, shop around to find the perfect loungewear set that suits your budget. Trust us, it’ll make you feel 100% more cosy at home.

1. Choose the right colors:

Avoid using bright colors for this will not stimulate you to sleep. Make sure also that the colors of your furniture and even fabrics complement each other. You have to make your room restful and relaxing so that you won’t find it hard to doze off.

But others opt to save on wall decor by painting it with plain warm colors and place beautifully framed pictures and paintings. You can actually look for some pictures you like or you might want to consider your kid’s art work. This can help you save a lot.
Instead of using cold flooring like ceramic tiles, marble or granite, make use of laminated flooring, wood, or carpet. It is not advisable to use ceramic tiles because it will only make your floor cold. You wouldn’t want to get out of bed and step on a cold floor. You might even slip if you use ceramic tiles. But if you already have cold flooring in your bedroom, put a rug or a carpet near your bedside.
It is important that you have a good traffic inside your bedroom. Arrangement of furniture greatly affects traffic in your bedroom. You need to allow at least 24 inches for traffic lanes. Clear your path towards the bathroom so that you wouldn’t stumble on anything when you have late night trips towards it.
When you choose a bedcover and curtains, make sure it will look well in the room. Consider the color of your room. You can choose darker fabrics if your room is light and lighter fabrics if your room is dark. Also, try to look for a design that suits the concept of your room. The fabric can actually show your personality. So, choose well.
Most people want to use dark curtains so that their bedroom will look a little bit dark even during the day which makes it much easier to sleep. Dark curtains look great especially if you will use light colored walls. But if your walls are dark, then use light colored curtains. You have to consider contrast in choosing the color for your curtain. Also, you might want to use a curtain with two layers.
Instead of using lights in the middle of the ceiling, use lampshades, up lights and pin lights. Using these types of lighting will give a great mood to your room. It would even be easier for you to rest with that ambience.
Of course, you would always have a cabinet in your room where you will place your clothes and other belongings. It is advisable to have an extra cabinet to make sure your things are well kept. Be wise in placing it in order to save space. A bedroom should be well arranged, neat and clutter-free. Having enough storage spaces will help you avoid clutter.

This might not be about decorating but ventilation is very important. You wouldn’t want to stay in a place that is too hot or too cold. If you want to have that fresh and cool air inside your room, use an exhaust fan. Put in on the ceiling or wall that is farthest from the window. This will help you save a lot for you won’t need to use an air conditioner if the weather is cold. You may also opt to have wide glass windows if you want. This can allow sunlight to get into the room.
11. Choose the right size furniture:
When you're ready to buy bedroom furniture, start out with a floor plan and a measured drawing of the space. Furniture should fit the room it lives in and this is particularly true for bedroom furniture. Don't choose a heavy, large bed and dresser for a small bedroom. If the ceiling is high, a tall headboard will help to visibly bring it down to size.If your bedroom is large, choose furniture that fits it, too. Add a chair and ottoman or place a piece of furniture at the end of the bed. Furniture and accessories that are too small will look lost in a large room.

When to transition a room for a child can depend on a number of factors, including the child’s age, development, family needs, finances (if new items are involved) and your time and headspace to do so. How to make that transition in terms of setting up, selecting items and decorating a room can re-awaken even the most sleepy of monsters from under your own bed, and so I offer a little guidance for each stage and tips on how to make the process feel easier and fun for everyone, including you.
Newborn: Birth to 18 months
This is the first room you will ever set up for your child and possibly the most exciting one. It’s easy to get lost in the joy of choosing cute colour schemes and accessories (which, lets face it, is so much fun) but don’t forget to focus on safety, temperature and comfort. Ensure any baby furniture complies with the Australian Standards set by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, especially your baby’s cot. The room should maintain a comfortable temperature for sleeping and be able to let in and block out sunlight. And of course, always make sure cords, electricals and any other choking hazards are well out of reach. Try to keep items to a minimum, you want your baby’s room to have a sense of space and lack of clutter and dust.
This is a fairly short stage in terms of your choice of furnishings, once your child is out of the cot and more self-sufficient, the room will change dramatically. Consider furniture pieces that transition with your child to avoid re-purchasing in just a few years. There are some super stylish convertible cots available now that will see your child from birth right through to about 5 years, depending on how quickly your child grows, as well as items like change tables that convert to storage or desks.
In terms of colours, I advise keeping walls neutral. That doesn’t have to be white. A soft but warm grey can be modern and a stunning backdrop to art, accessories and furnishings, especially timber.
Toddler: 18 months – 3 years
Toys start to mount up fast. The key is to bring stimulation into the space without overstimulating. Start thinking seriously about storage. Some items are really to be looked at only, so use shelves to creatively display toys that are better seen than touched. Avoid filling large toy boxes. Whilst they seem a quick and easy way to hide and store toys, they can be hard for kids to open themselves and also don’t encourage them to explore as they cant see what’s in the box at all times. Consider smaller boxes, containers or fabric pouches that kids can access. When buying toys look for low-toxic options where possible.
If you used a non-convertible cot you might be looking to transition your child to their first bed. Be aware if you purchase a racing car or princess bed, you may only get a few years out of it at the most. Having said that, having your child love their bed is important. Don’t discount a more neutral bed with fun bed linen that’s easy and relatively inexpensive to replace when little minds change their mind.
If they are not already, decals will become your best friend. They can change a room in an instant (ok an hour maybe) but are removable and can be mixed with bought or kids artwork, other decals and even paint colour to excellent effects.
In terms of safety, keep chairs, stools and benches away from windows and shelves. A safe night light can keep the monsters at bay.
Junior: 4-7 Years
Generally children transition from pre-school to big school during these years, so there is a lot of change going on. Kids may have a good idea about what they want in their room by this age, but just not how to make it look the way you can live with it! Help them develop their sense of self by talking to them about how they would like their room to look and then find a solution that you can live with. There’s always a way to introduce either a theme or an element that means a lot to them or piques their interest. Focus on one or two things as a concept rather than trying to make their room look like a kindergarten. Remember it’s a place for them to be them but also to sleep.
Encourage independence. Have hooks and rails at accessible heights so they can access some clothes and start to make decisions for themselves. Drawers and doors should be easy to open and shut. A desk at an appropriate height can foster creativity and a space for homework. If you have the space, consider a desk or table big enough to encourage sharing and interaction, a key to socialisation at this stage.
School and sports awards and certificates start to appear. If overt displays are not your thing, line the inside of their wardrobe door with awards and other items that start being collected at this age.
I recommend avoiding movie character themes for kids' rooms. What do you do when your little Elsa decides Frozen is ‘so yesterday’ and everything in her room is branded? It makes every new movie a potential re-style! If you simply can’t avoid giving in, keep it to very small items that can be replaced easily, worked in with neutrals that will stand the test of time.
Tween Rooms: 8 to 12 years
If you haven’t already, (and it does often happen in Junior years), it's time to transition into at least a single adults-style bed. The bed you buy now should last them the rest of their tween and teenage years, so choose carefully. Get your kids involved in the choice. Mattresses are also important. Latex mattresses are toxin free, ergonomic, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, but can also be hot if your child is a hot sleeper. Be sure to provide a clean, supportive mattress that supports their growing bodies and allows them a good night’s sleep.
By this age, your kids should definitely be having an input into how their room feels or what they really want. It’s a reflection of them at a time most important to encourage self awareness. Don’t forget a mirror for grooming.
Think about storage for games, books, sports equipment, school items and homework. Organise the room together so that your child understands taking responsibility for their items, like knowing where their school books and homework are each day. As with all storage, having a dedicated place for everything in their room makes it easier to keep clean, which is a key to household happiness as they enter their teenage years.
Teenagers: 13 to 18 years
There’s a pretty big differentiation between a 13 year olds room and an 18 year olds room, however there are a few overall design elements that cover this stage.
This is a good time to re-style your child’s room, and make them feel like they are at a new stage of life. Get rid of any kiddie posters or decals and give the room a more grown up feel, with full consultation with your child. Changing the wall colour can be a dramatic and effective way to make their space feel really new. Combine this with new, grown up decals, or artwork, accessories and lighting.
This is their space now and they should have a big say in the look and feel.
Think a lot about focussing on an area for quiet study including a desk, a chair (ideally ergonomic) and a desk lamp, as well as appropriate storage for laptops etc.
Privacy starts to become important at this age, both from the family and from outside the home, so ensure window treatments block out light and passers by. Ensure your child’s room has a door by this age.
While styling your kid’s room, make sure to take his or her preferences and habits into account. Every child is unique in his or her own way, and it’s always great to go with a look that captures tons of personality. So encourage your child to get involved in the process – it’s bound to be fun and is also the perfect way for you to spend time together and bond! ]]>Following some basic mattress care recommendations, such as cleaning it regularly and using a supportive foundation, can help you sleep more comfortably. Regular mattress maintenance may also help your mattress last longer by guarding against unnecessary wear and tear.
Caring for a mattress is relatively simple, but it helps to have a clear understanding of what’s needed. We’ll discuss how to take care of a mattress and how to know when it’s finally time to replace it.

Mattress Maintenance
Giving some thought to proper mattress maintenance may help you get more years out of your mattress. Taking care of a mattress includes knowing when to rotate or flip your mattress, ensuring your mattress has the proper support, and consistently cleaning your mattress to clear it of allergens and other contaminants. Changing the sheets frequently and using a mattress protector can also help keep your sleep surface clean and undamaged.
Ban Bouncing On The Mattress
To keep your mattress at its best, don’t sit on the edge of the bed regularly and don’t let the children or pets jump on it. This can put undue strain on the mattress and cause it to lose support sooner.
Rotating Your Mattress
It’s normal for a mattress to start sagging or develop permanent indentations in the places where sleepers usually lie. To evenly break in the sleep surface and avoid having one part of the bed grow softer than the rest, most manufacturers recommend regularly rotating the mattress from head to foot.
Foam, latex, and newer innerspring mattresses should be rotated every 6 to 12 months, while an older innerspring mattress should be rotated every 2 to 6 months. Some mattresses should not be rotated. For example, rotating a mattress with a zoned design may cause the mattress to be less comfortable and supportive.
Most older innerspring mattresses featured minimal comfort layers, meaning both sides of the bed had a similar feel. This symmetrical design allowed for sleepers to flip the mattress in addition to rotating it. However, modern mattresses tend to be designed with a softer comfort section on top and a firmer support core on the bottom. These mattresses are meant to always be used right-side up, and they should not be flipped.
Exceptions to this rule do exist, with some manufacturers offering flippable mattresses. Be sure to check your manufacturer’s recommendations for rotation and flipping.
Changing Your Sheets and Bedding
Washing your sheets and bedding is important for hygienic reasons, and it may also help protect your mattress from premature damage.
Sheets, blankets, and pillowcases naturally accumulate sweat, body oils, and other dirt, which can gradually seep into your mattress if bedding is not regularly changed. Bedding also attracts dust mites and other allergens, which may disrupt sleep for individuals with allergies.
In general, you should wash your sheets and pillowcases at least once a week, or more often if your pets sleep with you. Those who live in warmer climates or sleepers with seasonal allergies may also need to wash bedding more often during certain times of year.
Items that don’t come into close contact with the sleeper can be washed less frequently. You should wash duvet covers once or twice a month, comforters and blankets every 2 to 3 months, and pillow inserts every 4 to 6 months, depending on the type of pillow. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations for how to wash your bedding items.
Using a Mattress Protector
A mattress protector fits onto a mattress under the fitted sheet. Mattress protectors are designed as a barrier to keep dirt, sweat, dust mites, moisture, and other contaminants from entering the mattress. Most mattress protectors are machine-washable.
The majority of mattress protectors are waterproof or water-resistant, designed to prevent spills or bodily fluids from reaching the mattress. By keeping the mattress dry, a waterproof mattress protector can also help prevent the growth of mold and mildew. Manufacturers also sell mattress encasements, which form a seal around all six sides of the mattress to keep out bed bugs.
Mattress protectors are different from mattress pads or mattress toppers. A mattress protector’s main purpose is to keep the mattress clean, whereas mattress pads add a layer of cushioning and mattress toppers adjust the mattress’s firmness. While pads and toppers are not meant for protection, they can still help reduce some wear.
Virtually all mattress warranties contain a clause that voids the warranty if the mattress is dirty. Thus, not only do mattress protectors defend against spills and stains, but they may also indirectly prolong the mattress’ lifespan by maintaining warranty coverage.

Using Proper Support
Mattresses need to be paired with a solid foundation to prevent uneven weight distribution, which can lead to improper spinal alignment and potentially damage the mattress.
Traditionally, innerspring mattresses were used with box springs, which added bounce as well as support. Today, sleepers are transitioning to utilizing solid foundations or slatted bed frames for their foam or hybrid mattresses.
It is important to make sure that the support system you use is able to support not only the weight of the mattress, but also all the sleepers. Mattress manufacturers usually provide clear guidelines regarding the types of bases that can be used with the mattress. For example, heavier or larger mattresses may require a bed frame with extra legs in the center, while foam mattresses may require slats that are spaced close together. Failure to use adequate support will generally void the warranty.
How to Clean Your Mattress
In addition to washing your bedding, you may want to consider cleaning your mattress approximately every 6 months. Check with the mattress manufacturer to find out the best way to keep your mattress clean, as every model has specific care instructions. For most mattresses, users can follow some general guidelines:
Regular Cleaning Steps
To keep your mattress clean, the first step is to remove and wash all the bedding, including sheets, pillowcases, and blankets. If the mattress has a removable cover, you may be able to wash this too.
With the bed free of obstacles, you can use your vacuum’s upholstery attachment to vacuum the surface and sides of the mattress. Blot any stains with a gentle cleanser, followed by a clean cloth dipped in cold water. Be careful not to get the mattress too wet, especially if it’s a memory foam or polyfoam mattress.
Allow the mattress to dry, and then apply baking soda to the surface of the mattress to soak up any lingering smells. Give it a few hours to fully absorb, then vacuum up the baking soda using the upholstery attachment. Repeat the process on the other side.
Spills and Accidents
In addition to routine maintenance, you may need to clean your mattress if you spill something or have another type of accident. Cleaning your mattress right away may help prevent the stain from setting into the mattress fibers. Depending on what kind of stain it is, you may try using dish soap, vinegar, a solution of hydrogen peroxide, or a commercial enzyme cleaner.
If you use a mattress protector, you may be able to get away with cleaning your mattress less often.
When to Replace Your Mattress
Even if you take very good care of it, your mattress will eventually need to be replaced. On average, a mattress lasts between 7 and 10 years before it loses its supportive and pressure-relieving capabilities.
Latex mattresses tend to have the longest lifespan, lasting 7.5 to 8.5 years on average. Innerspring mattresses typically last between 5 and 6 years, foam mattresses last between 6 and 7 years, and hybrid mattresses last from 6.5 to 7.5 years. However, these numbers can vary significantly depending on the material quality and design, the sleeper’s position and body type, and the maintenance routine.
Your preferred sleeping position and body type influence how your weight is distributed across the mattress. For example, side sleepers may notice their mattress wearing out faster near the shoulders and hips, and a sleeper weighing more than 230 pounds may notice their mattress prematurely sagging.
Routinely cleaning your bedding, rotating the mattress, and removing dust and dirt will typically extend its lifespan. It’s also imperative to use the mattress with a proper base.
If you’ve had your mattress for several years, you may wonder if it’s time to replace it. Waking up with pain or stiffness, tossing and turning at night, or not feeling rested when you wake up are all clues that it may be time to consider a new mattress.
Replacing your mattress is worthwhile for your sleep and your overall quality of life. However, it can also be a costly investment. While it’s not a permanent solution, adding a mattress topper may allow you to sleep on the mattress for a little longer before needing to buy a new one

Why choose a sectional?
Sectionals are the most inviting.
No other seating arrangement seats more people than a sectional. Sectionals can help maximize seating options in smaller homes, especially when placed in a corner. All you need is a room with two walls. In many small areas, a sectional will often fit better than a sofa and loveseat as the length, and the width will take up less space.
Sectionals help to zone an open concept plan.
Nothing looks better than an open and airy plan, but it is tricky to arrange furniture and divide between living/ dining and kitchen areas. In these instances, a sectional couch works as a visual barrier between functional spaces.
Configuring a Sectional
The first thing to understand about a sectional sofa is that it is comprised of two or more individual parts that fasten together by metal brackets located on the side of the piece. This is a great thing for customers because it means that you can often ask for individual pieces to create a custom sectional to fit the size of your home. If the configuration you want isn’t in stock, just ask about special ordering to get exactly what you want!
Depending on the manufacturer and the style of the sectional, you might have different pieces available. For an L shape sectional, you will be able to choose from a three-seat cushion sofa part, a two-cushion loveseat part, and a single-cushion square connector part. Some styles may also offer a chaise piece, which is similar to a loveseat in size but features a single long cushion and no back on one side. But to properly configure these parts, you need to understand the difference between right-arm facing and left-arm facing pieces.
Right-Side Sitting
If you are standing facing a sectional and the chaise is on the right, it is a right-side sitting chaise. The arm of the chaise is on the right because the sofa continues to the left.
Left-Side Sitting
If you are standing facing a sectional and the chaise is on the left, it is a left-side sitting chaise. The arm of the chaise is on the left because the sofa continues to the right.

When planning the placement of your sectional, think of daily use vs occasional use. Your room needs to feel welcoming and offer a comfortable/cozy feeling to your family. When you enter the room, you want to be facing the sectional; you don’t want to come into the room and see the back of it. Arranging it in the corner of the room facing the focal point is one of the easiest ways to place your sectional.
It’s essential to account for everything when measuring your space. Focal points, windows, doors and other furniture are important factors to consider in the area. For this reason, the left or right sitting sectional decision can sometimes be a difficult one. An interior designer can help with this task.
What are the best sectional configurations?
There are countless numbers of options when it comes to sectional set up. With so many choices, you will find the perfect fit for your space that suits your needs.
Modular sectionals come in different depth and width seats and will allow you to design the shape that fits your room best. Here are the 4 most common shape options that you can create with sectional couches!
When one side of the sectional is longer than the other, or they have an equal length on both sides, it is called an L-shape sectional. This arrangement works best in larger rooms with lots of wall space.
The U-shape looks like exactly that, a U except that sometimes one side can be shorter than the other. It can work well in spaces that are square or awkwardly shaped. The U-shape is ideal if you have a big space to fill, a family room or a finished basement/rec room.
A chaise sectional is basically a sofa with an added chaise lounge. It feels right at home in an open-plan space, especially when paired with a side table and backed by a sofa table*. The chaise sectional works well in a small area when it can’t accommodate an L or U shaped sectional.
*Sofa table: a narrow table you can position at the back of a sofa to accessorize and create separation as well as hide the back of the sectional.
Most sectionals come with a round corner or a 90-degree option. It’s an excellent solution for intimate conversation and cuddling.
Reclining Sectional
Many larger sectionals have reclining options, whether it is powered electronically or not. And if you are looking for a top-of-the-line sectional, you should ask about ones with adjustable lumbar support and headrests. These sectionals are great for the living room or for a theater room because each person can adjust their seat to get the perfect level of comfort. Plus, some sectionals feature built-in consoles and cup holders to make the piece even more functional!
Fabric
For a lower price option with a great feel, try a microfiber or microsuede sectional sofa. These durable fabrics are soft to the touch and will give you big bang for your buck. But for the most style and durability, look for a top grain leather sectional. You can find leather sectionals in all colors, from browns to whites and grays. These options are pricier, but the leather is easy to maintain and should last you for many years to come!
Final Step
Sectionals are great options for every home because they maximize the seating for any space.
